What's new with you since Covid 19?

7,092 3,609 March 21, 2020 at 11:47 PM in Chat
Just wondering what (besides the obvious) how everyone's been impacted. Work has all but halted for me, other than some online reselling that I do. Also, my stepdaughter will be moving in within a few weeks, since she's being laid off. It will actually give her a chance to make a career change and save for a house. We are planning a bigger garden, too.

So, what's new with you?

So WFH isn't an option? I don't remember what you do...

We rode the yard car around the hood the other day and took photos of everyone's flowers. I texted before we drove up, so our neighbors knew we we trespassing. laugh out loud i love the bear hunt and the scavenger hunt. I thought about doing one for the neighborhood. Everyone would have to take pics when they find things. I figured i would find links to some interesting or funny things to send to those who find everything. Just something to do.

Our winter didn't exist. We had two frosts. We didn't even have a hard freeze. It will be 88° here tomorrow! We usually don't get that until the end of May or first of June. The mosquitos will be horrendous this year.

Oddly enough, I've lost a few.

I feel like most everyone has this underlying sense of mild panic hovering beneath the surface. In the days before the stay home mandates, I went to a couple of stores and you could just feel the tension in the air. We get that when people are prepping for a hurricane.

laugh out loud

Try to acquire some 70% isopropyl alcohol and wipe down the things you touch in the cab before your shift. Probably would be a good idea to use one of those laser thermometers on each other as you change shifts. Right now the guys you work with would probably think this is a bunch of nonsense, just ask Rand Paul, but give it 3-4 months ....
I'm wondering if they will be taking temperatures on arrival. On one of the robocalls I got this week they said we are required to check our own temperature before coming to work. They did at least cancel our scheduled safety meeting but no word on staggered start times or what other changes might be in place since I was there last.

I wish I would've listened to /pol/ earlier and stocked up on toilet paper and gone to Mexico for medicine before they shut down the border.

I drive a haul truck in an iron ore mine, so no work from home option. The positive is that I am alone in the truck for 12 hours with the only direct exposure to others at the beginning and end of the shift. The negative is that I am stuck in a small truck cab that somebody else just spent the previous 12 hours in.

My crew has been off for 9 days so I don't know what, if any, changes they might have made in response to the virus. We are scheduled for a regular monthly safety meeting before work tomorrow which is basically 60-70 people sitting together on benches in one room for about 30 minutes. I like to think they would be smart enough to not do that but I haven't received any word to not arrive early for it.

We also have a daily meeting before every shift in the same setting but for only about 5 minutes. There was talk about staggering our start times so not everyone arrives at once but again they haven't contacted us with any changes. We are due back tomorrow so maybe there will be news today.
The CDC said that any household disinfectant will kill the virus as long as you give it the same amount of woe down time as washing your hands, 20 seconds. If you have any kind of disinfectant wipes (or make your own) you should be able to clean your truck. Good luck!

Compared to the mad rush the day before the stay at home order went into effect today wasn't nearly as bad. I'm back to work tomorrow so I decided to chance one more grocery store visit. In contrast to Monday, when the shelves were completely full of eggs, so I'm glad I decided to head out again today. Gas at every station I went by was now under $2/gallon.
We got it for $1.61 today, with our Kroger card (.10/offpergal)

Here's a really good video about how to bring groceries into your home safely.

I have to admit, I was at my local drug store and 5 or 6 people were wearing gloves and masks and it kind of freaked me out. And then when I was in line the lady behind me kinda invaded my personal space.

Please be careful about invading people's personal space while shopping!

That video makes me crazy. Any items that are not refrigerated can just be left alone out of the way for the number of days the virus takes to die. Human contact is the main way this virus is transmitted.I ain't puttin Lysol on my lettuce.

Currently there is no evidence of food or food packaging being associated with transmission of COVID-19 [google.com].<-

What are your feeling on masks? There was an article in the Washington Post over the weekend basically saying we should all be wearing them when we are out in public - if only to help us stop touching our faces! Who knew it was so hard to NOT touch your face. Of course I am a terrible sewer...any tips on making your own mask would be much appreciated. I def don't want to be taking masks away from first responder.

My college shut down, got slammed with 3 weeks worth of work crammed into a week so we stay caught up. Testing locations and campuses are closed, so the professors and students don't know what's happening with finals. My girl was laid off for a month, and now it seems like it will be longer. Unemployment taking too long to come through. The stores have no rice. A lot of the stuff left on the shelf is super expensive/fancy food. Arizona just went into lockdown except for essential/grocery shopping. A lot of people in my area are really dopey and still think it's a hoax or one of many other tinfoil hat conspiracy theories. Running low on everything.. Trying to keep up with class work, essays, and now the daily stress of living on a partial income and trying to stretch groceries is going to kill me long before the COVID gets to me.

Lots of great information here:

It's mainly for people to print different types of masks, but people are also sharing DIY masks, etc..

Anybody having trouble sleeping or taking naps with everybody home?
May I recommend
using a sound spa or
download a free one on your phone. There is even a free pink noise app at Google play, and YouTube also has some 10 hour white and pink
noise videos.
