I've never had a problem with a table saw or miter. I think a lot of times people expect them to last forever without doing maintenance on them. I have $120 table saw and it works fine. It's good in a pinch of I just need to make a quick cut that needs to be precise.

Nothing wrong with this miter saw, but wouldn't buy it if you're adjusting cutting depth. Dewalt would work much better. If you're doing things like flooring and crown moldings consistently, then the Delta should work fine.
How often is a miter saw used for cutting depth? I guess in all the videos I watch (furniture building typically) the miter saw is used just to cut to length. Don't think I've ever seen it used to cut to a specific depth.

Carpenters use them frequently for cutting depth, that's why your more expensive ones have depth settings. Also, sometimes you will do it when making compound cuts for certain types of framing. However. if you're not doing any of that, this Delta would work fine. Personally, I would still go for the 12" Dewalt for an extra $18.

Gotcha, thanks. This is all just dreaming on my part anyways haha but I read to get a 12" over 10" for most miter saws, but the increased cutting capacity on the Cruzer line has me rethinking. I like how it's more compact too.

It'll be at least another 5 years before Ill be in a position to own one though!

Yeah, I've saw one comment that the depth stop on this saw is not as good as on some others. However, its not really great on most miter saws anyhow. That being said, I've never used a depth stop on a miter saw, I'd do a cut like that quickly on my table saw or more precisely with a router with a guide (or a router in a table) .

I've never done it, but some might want to cut a quick depth cut with their miter saw, I've always done this with another tool though.

Here's a video on creating a dado with a miter saw (Note looks like its being done with a Cruzer -- no shadow lite so probably a GEN 1 Cruzer) https://www.wwgoa.com/video/makin...w-015385/#

That's what I figured I'd use if I wanted to a depth cut. Just got my first router, and I feel like it opens up woodworking possibilities so much. Would loveeeee a table saw.

This replaced my non sliding 10" Hitachi and they have a similar depth profile which is amazing, I almost got the 12" Hitachi/Metabo but it's massive compared to the delta and my shop is quite small. I have the Delta right up to the wall no problem and while the Metabo also has a smaller profile than something like the Delta it does require more space front/back than the Delta.

Was looking at the hercules 12" from harbor freight. Sometimes it hits 299. Thoughts on this vs the hercules?
The Delta Cruzer is a different type of miter saw than the Hercules. The Delta has axial cams while the Hercules has sliding rods. The Delta will take almost zero space behind the saw to operate, while the Hercules will need close to a foot behind to operate. This is important to people that have small shops or that want to put the saw up against a wall. If your shop is huge or the saw is not going along a wall this won't matter.

That being said, the Hercules looks like a decent saw. I would compare the 12" Hercules vs the 12" Delta. Assuming the above space limitations are of no concern to you, there are other items to compare. Quality: For a Harbor Freight tool, the Hercules looks decent, but the Delta looks like it has higher quality. The Delta has an easier to use lever: all controlled from the front, but Hercules isn't bad. Delta has 5 yr warranty, Hercules is, I think, 90 days but can spend extra and extend that to 2 years. Both have shadow line. Delta's axial cam is smoother. I am assuming that if you are willing to wait for Hercules to go on sale from 350 to 300 plus extended warranty (not sure I'll guess $30 bringing it to 330 if want the two year warranty), you'd be willing to wait for Delta to go on sale too. My guess is 12" Delta will eventually go on sale for around $400. So, are the benefits of the Delta worth $70 -100? That's a personal decision.

If the 10" Delta is OK for you, than the price is currently similar so the Delta seems like it might be the better choice.

I picked mine up this morning from Menards. Once I set it up, I loved how smooth everything worked. Unfortunately, mine did not come with the shadow guide installed. I called their customer support and they first suggested I return the saw. Come on, the box and packing materials were basically destroyed getting it out. I emailed their support group and asked if they can send me the light kit separately. Finger crossed...otherwise, I may try a hack to build it myself..

So, it was missing the shadow line or Menards sold you a Gen 1 or was it a return clearance? Does the box say 26-2240 or 26-2241 on it (the 41 is Gen 2)? If I bought the Gen 2 and it was missing, I'd return it to Menards and get another (I'm assuming you are local to Menards and bought in store since Menards charges almost an extra $40 vs Amazon shipped).

Box, manual and all say 26-2241.

There are no Menard's here, but doesn't Menards allow you to exchange a product that is missing something or defective. I'd exchange it and let Menards deal with everything. You just bought it today!

If I bought it from Amazon, and it was missing the shadowline, I'd just contact Amazon and click exchange or something, and they would send a new one and a shipping label for old one. Plus, I think Kohls and UPS accept items from Amazon not in original box.
