Minecraft Windows 10 Edition - Free *ONLY for pre-2019 Java owners*

This promotion was gone until recently(they graciously re-opened the promotion again).

THIS IS ONLY FOR ANCIENT-JAVA OWNERS. If you didn't buy Minecraft before October 18, 2018...it's not for you.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This promotion is ending. You have until April 20, 2020 to redeem your code at account.mojang.com.

For more information: https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/a...n-please-/

To redeem your code, log in to your Mojang account. If you purchased Minecraft Java Edition before October 18, 2018, you will see a button that says "Redeem" in your account.

- If the button is grayed out, you've already claimed the code. Log in to your Microsoft account to redownload the game.
- If you don't have a Redeem button, you purchased Minecraft Java Edition after October 18, 2018 and are not eligible for this promotion.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My notes:
I had a couple issues at first. Mostly because I wasn't already signed in to minecraft. So after you sign in, go back to the account.mojang.com and see if you are eligible.

Here's one of the old original slickdeals from 2016: https://slickdeals.net/e/8766919-windows-10-beta-version-of-minecraft-free-for-existing-java-pc-mac-owners
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Purchased Java version on 12/10/17. Logged in and don't see a "Redeem" button.

Says mine was claimed on 28 June, 2018, but I don't remember doing that and it's not in any of my Microsoft accounts...

I thought Java edition was better, got updates more frequently. Did that change when Microsoft bought it?

Java is better. Heck, the Floo Network just released their Harry Potter map/mod after 4 years and it is only available to Java users. Java is more flexible to mod for while Windows 10 version is essentially Minecraft Pocket Edition. CD key resellers are selling Win 10 versions for $5 as opposed to the Java edition at $21. But, they are trying to migrate people over to the Windows 10 version and more mods are being added to it. Regardless, the mod data base and a plethora of other mods is way bigger currently for Java.

Do I lose the ability to play Minecraft on Java once I migrate? Or do I get Win10 in addition to my existing Java?

Yes, Microsoft rewrote Minecraft in C++ and they are incompatible with each other. This C++ version is the only Microsoft supported version now as far as I know.

Hi, Microsoft still *sells* the Java as well. you don't lose ability to use Java afterward. BUT, you gain the ability to play with everyone using Android, iPhone, XBOX, etc. Those all use Minecraft Bedrock version. It *does* require you to know someone who is paying for a realm if you want multiplayer, I think. But I have siblings and friends that have told me I can play on their server with them.

I found this article with more detailed instructions, and tried to follow it, but I have no redeem button on any of our families accounts - they should all qualify.

Well, when I clicked the link to migrate (although I already had), I got a message that I can only own one copy of Minecraft at a time. I was hoping for another Win10 code. This may work for other people, though.

edit: sign out of all minecraft pages before clicking the migrate button, and you should be able to change the associated email address - at least it is an option in the form. I locked myself out, so I can't confirm, yet...
