I had been eyeing this beast for a few days now and Amazon just took it down another $230 to it's lowest price ever. I don't think there's a better deal for a true 120Hz panel with a backlit VA panel. No local dimming, but that feature starts at twice this price.

The 2020 800H model is only a 60Hz panel and going for $2000.

Just pulled the trigger myself to replace my 2011 Sharp 1080p 80" TV that served well. Can't really go smaller again after having gotten used to that much screen real estate.

Looks like the same price at Costco with 2nd year warranty. https://www.costco.com/sony-85%22...31015.html

I was wondering what triggered Amazon to drop the price to that odd value. I don't have Costco, but I did get an extra 5% with the Amazon Visa card and I used that to go ahead and get the $140 4 year warranty.

Winning all around however you get there.

Rtings didn't review the 85 inch model (they note it's a VA panel). Anyone else have a review from a reputable source?

Bought this at $1999 back in March. This is a great deal. The TV is plenty bright for daytime, colors look natural, HD and 4k are awesome. Blacks aren't as black when compared to x900f, but you save hundreds of dollars. I don't notice any blooming with mine, think blooming is an issue with full array local dimming which this TV doesn't have.

Not sure if it has had issues. I just got this last week from Costco, and mine does not have issues. I coudln't find much definitively, which is part of why I went with Costco, so I'd have plenty of time for return if needed. So far we are liking the TV, although my kids say it is still too small.

Now I'm off to request a price adjustment.

I saw the 85" 850 and 900 in person awhile back. Couldn't tell the difference. I could of swore they were the same panel. Can't fancy why anyone would pay an extra $1000 for the 900 series.

I just grabbed this recently from best buy ($1200 for open box - no stand/no remote). It does have a VA panel with very good co trast and decent brightness. It has a full array back lighting, but no local dimming so blooming won't be an issue. Handles fast moving motion without any sort blurring. Have had issues with the wifi connectivity so I hooked it up to a switch by my entertainment stand. To be fair, I've had wireless connectivity issue with a couple of other smart devices around the house but if you're serious about streaming high quality 4k HDR then you should go wired anywho. Also had issues with ARC and the onboard apps sound cutting out. Tried replacing the HDMI cable and tried a bunch of different settings in the TV, to no avail. Could be a compatibility issue with my onkyo tx-nr777 receiver, who knows but didn't have any ARC issues with the previous Vizio though. I've never thought much of built in apps on smart TVs anyway so I'm very happy with the TV.

Just curious, any issues when watching in a dark room? Screen more grey than black, bleeding edges, etc.?

Yeah, definitely not worth the price difference and yes, they have the same panels. I did the same as you and went to the store to check out TVs. Local dimming adds just a little extra contrast but also creates blooming in dark scenes. The 950g has some sort of wide-veiwing filter on the screen but takes away contrast. The viewing angle on this tv is perfectly fine IMO and contrast trumps all IMO. I think where a lot of people go wrong is place the TV up too high. The center of the tv should be around the center of your eyeline. I have mine about 24" off the floor to the bottom of the TV.

Nope, and I'm very picky when it comes to screen uniformity/cloudiness. Couldn't really chime in on how good they all are and if I got lucky with one. Not too sure if I would trust something so large to be shipped. They may have this at some stores for pickup.

Decent tv. Picked one up from the Best Buy open box deals for $899. Android tv is buggy and terrible backlight bleeding on dark scenes, otherwise it's solid.
