Getting a lot of points easily:
bing.com/news on PC. Simply go here, then click on each link on the left. Each click is 5 points. You can get the max searches of 150 points per day in under a minute. Use Microsoft Edge to get 20 extra per day.
Completing "Daily set" on Bing mobile app. There are three clickable links from the app including one search, one quiz, and one survey. When you string multiple days in a row, you bonus points. This gets 30 to 60 points daily.
Completing news story searches on Bing mobile app. On the "Earn" section, click on the mobile icon and then click on all the news stories until you get the max. This takes the longest out of all of these three. 100 to 200 points daily depending on bonuses.
Doing this alone can get you about 10,000 points a month. Getting points from Rewards app on Xbox and completing Quests and Microsoft Rewards emails gets you more. Xbox Rewards app has the least points per time spent.
Also, here are more details about the rewards and history.
The 12 month Xbox live rewards are typically only available when it is a "Hot Deal". However, they haven't been available since last July.
When redeeming for Xbox or Microsoft gift cards, they are applied to your account and expire within 90 days. Each reward redeemed has a specific expire date 90 days from applying.
When redeeming for Game Pass or Xbox live month rewards, the codes are sent for redemption and not automatically applied to account.

On a tangent - "Xbox Game Pass for PC" 1 month for 7000 points (== $7)?? That's $2 more than retail price!

This is pretty much the biggest discount they do now. They used to do 30% but i haven't seen that in probably close to two years.

That's the tricky part. I'm assuming you would be able to preorder the Xbox Series X within the next 3 months. With that being the case, you can use the gift card $$ to lower the preorder price, but if they expire before it's out would that be a huge waste?
The problem with preordering is that they only charge the point or gift card balance before it ships. That's what sucks.
