I was just looking at this in the store today and also saw the student deal for the HP x360 14 for $499 that seems to have the same specs I think, minus the 4K display and overall design. I ordered both to figure out which I'll keep, but am I missing why the Spectre costs so much more?

I think you're referring to the x360 Pavillion, which is built like crap and breaks down randomly after a few months of use. Additionally, poor display, no USB-C charging, not-as-good trackpad, much worse keyboard, etc.
The Spectre is a far better buy at this price. Main issue is non-upgradeable RAM (8gb is basically minimum nowadays) and very difficult to upgrade SSD (need to peel off the aluminum plate covering the SSD)

Either you need your eyes checked or looked at the wrong laptop. The Spectre is unlike anything else out right now, the gem cut, those angles, just the color alone looks like something from the future, rose gold accents on the dark charcoal, sick!
The processor and ram combo will be much faster on the c940. I saw them both in person and they both have an ultra premium feel and look. I am waiting for the c940 to go back on sale because of the added processing power. It should also have better battery life with the non-4K screen.

Thanks! You mean the processor and ram would be much better on the c940?

Correct, I edited after I realized the ambiguity.
