I doubt this laptop will go down much further because of the design and specs. 1600 was overpriced launch price from a generally overpriced company to begin with.

And what laptop is worth much after a few years? They all depreciate rapidly. For example, check 2015 dell xps 13 ebay bids ($210ish) and thats before shipping and fees.

MacBooks are the only ones that seem to retain any semblance of value down the road. That's why I was hesitant to purchase a new XPS. You just lose your butt on them even 2 years down the road.

I'm not saying this is a bad machine, i've had two tongfang machines, and support and bios updates just suck.

Just search slickdeals, For $300 more you will get a far superior machine, better CPU, amazing GPU, better display (120Hz) better warranty/support, walk in and return if you don't like it, and frequent bios updates. With these tong fang machines you get one or two bios updates and then you are done. Yes it's $300 more, but if your spending $1k you can most likely afford $300 more.

In regards to bios updates, have a look at other machines support pages. Rarely do laptops receive 1.....sometimes if there's an issue there will be 2. Lenovo tones performance and fan noise with theirs but even the Y series gets 2 max. The G14 is a good machine for sure, but that's 33% more money and that machine has it's drawbacks as well. Eluktronics is far from a no name brand, they are an enthusiast brand which some would say Asus isn't. They over perform the spec not lower them(famous Asus fan blocking on Ryzen machines) Check out the RP-15. Highest performing 4800H in a laptop. This machine is obviously not for you but it's for someone who wants top notch CPU performance, great battery life, a clean design and support from a company who when you call doesn't say just turn it off and turn it back on.

Looking at the RP-15, its design looks just like the EVOO that Walmart sells, so I wonder if we will be seeing an EVOO variant of the RP-15 at Walmart soon?

If they sell mag15 $1600 at launch, someone was selling the identical laptop for $900 6 months later. This laptop might have very high depreciation rate.
That's because Intel CPU depreciated in the last 6 months thanks to Ryzen. Simple as that.

Btw, the guy in the video weighed it at 1.5kg, which is 3.3lbs. Still pretty great, but you'll definitely notice the additional 10% over a 3lbs laptop like an LG Gram 17.

The specs claim 1.42kg (3.14lbs), but I assume that's without the RAM and/or the SSD.

$789 if you opt out of windows, ram, ssd and dbrand seems like a great deal. $200 will go a lot farther adding your own ram and ssd

30% more may be "same price range" to you, but paying an extra $300 when your budget is $1000 is too much of a stretch for many people to justify, since $1000 is already a stretch for some. And go down to 14"???

No offense, but we don't really need more posts on SD where the answer is "just spend 30% more."

Where's the GPU? Someone forgot it??? You can get several 4800h with 1660ti or 2060 for $850-1000. Hell, go to bestbuy site and look at open box..

Opting out of windows yes. But $100 for 16gb ram 3200mhz and 512gb nvme seems like a great deal to me. Dbrand is only $10 so thats basically personal preference

Would be nice to get more info on display brightness

How does it require windows? You could just install Linux.
It's not a technical limitation, but one from the seller. If you select the option on the site, it tells you that they give you the dead-pixel guarantee only if you choose and pay for windows.

That's kind of weird...but I guess that works for most people.

"far superior" is arguable depending on the person
4800H vs 4900HS, they're about equal. 4900HS is better binned but it's still low-powered unlike the 4900H. Performance will be about the same as the 4800H, if not slightly worse.
If I'm doing anything but competitive gaming, I would rather forgo 120hz for the 15.6" screen.
Yea the GPU is great. But for some people it's just a battery drainer. For Linux users, NVIDIA GPUs are a headache to deal with.
So again, really arguable. For some people this would be a better buy than the ASUS even if they were equally priced, let alone up to $400 less.
and why would you need frequent bios updates? I thought the general rule is to not touch the bios if everything's working fine.

Where can you find it for $900?

He's referring to the Cyberpower PC clone with 8gb ram and 250 SSD and no OS for like $950 earlier this year
