Sam's Club [samsclub.com] has Dash Rapid Cold Brew System(Model# DCBCM500BK) on sale for $29.98.
Free Shipping for Sam's Club members. Offer ends on August 09 or while supplies last.

Also, Amazon [amazon.com] has the updated version(Model# DCBCM550BK) on sale at the same price. Not clear what the difference exactly is, but due to the high failure rate, it's recommended to get the newer one. (Thanks contraium) - OOS

I have this and absolutely love it. First bought on their crowd fund and have gone through several over the years. Their support is amazing and have always replaced whenever I've had an issue.

I'm curious. Seems like you're saying you've already gone through a few of these, Why such a high failure rate on something so basic? Even good times with customer service is time wasted.

I bought 2 of these when they first came out. It's not good. One leaked like crazy and one day I tightened it to stop the leaking and instead the top blew off and coffee was everywhere. The other one works but still leaks a bit and makes weak coffee. Stick with the overnight ones...so much better coffee

Its not really your basic machine. I crowd funded as well and loved it. But I couldnt take the issues. It creates a vacuum and forces what would normally take 24 hours to happen in a few minutes. really unique, fun, but again, we couldn't take the issues. Very picky, at least the first gen was.

Not really sure why people use this. Cold brew is idiot proof - you literally just put coffee grounds in a pot or jar and then add regular water and soak for 12-36 hours to your taste. I love Dash the company and I love gadgets but why bother in this case - you are actually just increasing what you need to clean. Better than this would be a bigger size French press.

I've had it for probably 5 years now. Every once in a while a seal will break and it'll start leaking. They've always replaced, even sometimes with a newer model.

I've never made cold brew before: do any particular coffees work better? What is the optimal grind? Any other basics I need to know?

This isn't really cold brew. If you make cold brew the traditional way, the coffee has a thickness to it. The Dash moves the water through the beans several times but the end result lacks the qualities of cold brew. It's closer to just taking pre-ground coffee, adding water and shaking. It makes coffee flavored water but I didn't think it was the same quality as cold brew, and making cold brew at home is just letting bean sit in water for a day. I wanted this to work because I'm impatient but my Dash just sits here unused. I have a Takeya cold brew maker that I use regularly and that's just a filter in water but the end product is cold brew
