It's 4 years since receiving the sign up bonus.
You have to wait 4 years since opening the first one before you can get another.
The application date or the card open date doesn't matter. What matters is the date that you received the sign-up bonus. That date is probably the closing date of the statement in which it was awarded to you.

For example, if you met the minimum spend for the sign up bonus in the first month the card was opened, the statement closing date was probably October or November 2016. If you met the minimum spend in the 3rd month that the card was opened, then the bonus may have been awarded in January or even February - again, depends on the statement closing date. You can check your first few statements in that account to know for sure.

Good question. Also, what if you wife was an authorized user on a card that you got a Sapphire bonus in the last 12 months. Is a Sapphire bonus for you within 48 months held up against a wife (authorized user on that card), applying on her own?
Quote from bru_that :
No. That is not held against AU's who decide to apply for their own card.
Also make sure to refer your wife so you get the 15k referral bonus! Did that with my wife and brother.

any chance they give more time for spending due to.. you know, this thing going on? $4k in 3mos is tough for me. And how is 80k pts = $800? you can redeem it as statement credit? whats up with no promo APR? i dont dine/travel. is this card even useful for anything else? Is this once-in-years kinda deal? i will really have to stretch to meet spending. need ideas on how to blow 4k on retail..
Unless you have already done this, pre-pay certain things. Example - if you know that you are going to keep the same cell phone plan, pay for the full year. Generally, between electricity/water/Dish/cell phone/Garbage, I can easily pre-pay $4000.

You can also pre-pay your taxes - though it will cost 2% - but I would lose 2% anyday to make $800ish.

very aware but thanks anyway.

The only other offers that I may be interested:

125K points for Amex ($550 fee)
100K points for United ($525 fee)

But 80K miles for $95 is a lot better.
For the United offer, you can redeem miles toward the AF at a ratio of 1.5cpp - actually pretty good value, leaving you with ~ 65k miles + United club membership for $0. If folks could travel frequently and take advantage of the lounges, that would be an extremely good offer. Also, if you get targeted for the 125k Amex Platinum offer... Don't think, just take it.

1. Does this also mean that if my wife applies for the card, and makes me an authorized user of her new card, the fact that she gets the 80K bonus won't be used against me? I assume this is the case but am checking (as I next become eligible for a Sapphire bonus in Jan/Feb 2021 and I don't want to give that up)

2. Totally different question: If I have a Dec 2020 renewal date on my Sapphire Reserve, as an example, new fee billed on Dec 1, (meaning the paid membership fee only covered me through Nov 2019), can I use the card for 1 month, get the $300 credit, cancel the card, and get a full refund on the membership fee (starting 12/1)....a double dip so to speak.???

It has to be from someone who also has a Case Sapphire Preferred. Just google chase refer a friend. The 80k bonus isnt currently active for a referral but it should be in a couple days.

Correct on both counts. You have until sometime in early-mid January 2021 to either cancel or product change the Reserve to get the AF refund and use the new $300 travel credit. At that point, assuming you are clear under the 48 month rule, you can then apply for a new Sapphire.

1. I did get a 100K offer for Amex via cardmatch around March 2020 but did not bite. Note that the 125K is for those who don't already have an Amex which is why I think it is mine for the asking. I just want to time it. Having said that, I can't seem to find a good way to bank those 125K points and in many years back, I used to transfer those points to Dela skymiles which I hear is now skypesos.

2. How do you convert United miles to AF miles at 1: 1.5???? Also I don't follow your math for the 100K united miles and how you are left with $65 and effectively no annual fee.

Called Chase this morning, it's 48 months since the last sign up bonus was RECEIVED, so likely a little bit after signing up.

They need to extend the 25% pay yourself back bonus. If so, this can potentially be $1000 cash back minus AF.

Its 48 months from your last Sapphire bonus. If you are getting close and still have a Sapphire card I would probably product change it to a Freedom Unlimited now so you can apply again.
Thanks - I changed to that card back in 2017.

I received my 100k points sometime in 2016 but have no way of finding exactly when, without some hassle. So if no one is eligible at this time, I won't waste time finding out - I'll just wait a few months and hopefully this promo will still be there.
