I had two hero 7 blacks go "bad" on me and was engaged in a 1.5 year fight with them over replacements on and off, only to find out that two out of three Samsung memory cards I bought off of Amazon as FP slick deals were fakes, and actually what caused my cameras to freeze, crash, fail to give me clear files at random. I felt like an idiot. I was so sure it was GoPro's fault.
Amazon gave me refunds for the cards even tho one was over a year old and I threw them in the trash.
Next memory cards I buy will be directly from Best Buy via price matching to Amazon.
First, if you are already a gopro subscriber, they give you an additional discount on the camera. I am not, so I couldn't see what the discount actually was.
When you check out, they break out the subscription cost (49.99) separately from the bundle cost and ask you to acknowledge it. At first, I was confused and thought they were adding this to the total cost, but when I checked out, it wasn't added. I did have to pay tax, and 2-day shipping was free.
Everything is discounted, at least it was/is for Hero8. Theres a FAQ section with the list, look it up. Media mod and such are only 30% off IIRC. Battery for instance came down to 13$ a pop, IIRC. Dunno if the discounts changed for Hero9.
Was super hyped when I first saw the advertisement videos. Bought myself a GoPro 4 black and used it once on a ski trip. Let's just say my videos were not as interesting to watch as the pros. It's been sitting in a bag collecting dust evervsince

Same here. Totally disappointed with Hero8. Unless you feed bright sunshine into the camera, videos are bleh and meh combined. As for the pro videos you see on Youtube, I bet theres a ton of postprocessing going on there, from color grading, even more stabilization, more sharpness, in other words you have to have a decent computer and a fair bit of time to get that kind of quality. And not to mention the interesting factor. Different angles and such take a lot of time to set up etc. As I said, if its full sunshine and not a cloud in sight, video quality isacceptable and more than decent.
While here, do Heros support external monitors of any kind? Its a hassle to press record and then wait to see whether videos are any good. Wireless to mobile preview kinda sucks, so was wondering if theres a way to hook up an external monitor to a Gopro.

Wow I just bought the Hero8 not even 2 months ago for the same amount of money.. I feel screwed over by GoPro... and their accessories are really expensive too. FML

I have always been impressed with my Hero 3, 4 and 5. But, I will say that I had a few vacation videos that did come out better on the 4 then the 5. Upper canopy (mid lighting with reflections, etc), but the other videos have been really good. Including snorkling, beach, and diving.
My only concern with diving is that I made the mistake of trying to stop the movie mid-capture at 40' or so feet. I did go down to 60' and the camera had no issues with water. I could not engage the button until at around 18' under sea level. I missed recording sharks, mantas, turtles, and a ton of other life.
I would be curious if others had similar experiences on how the hero7/8 worked at depth knowing that 33' is supposed to be the limit.
Ordered! I was sad I kept not pulling the trigger on the HERO 8 Costco bundle but I really like the feature changes in this one and the price isn't too bad.
A little of subject here but I got an email from AAFES on their "Military Exclusive Price" on this GoPro 9. $450 list price but the "Military Exclusive Price" price from AAFES is $430. WTF?!?! No tax but come on AAFES.

why, companies release new products yearly.
buy an iphone 11 now and a month later they come out with new line.
Same with Nvidia RTX cards, think about the people who bought 2080ti.
it's called progression.

I mean, I'm sure your ski runs themselves don't look like the pros either.

That seems to be the best/safest solution.

SAVE 30% WHEN YOU SUBSCRIBE TO GOPRO
but the "Casey" cases do not.
Ooh, The Handler [gopro.com] grip does not say that. It says BEST SELLER instead. The Suction Cup [gopro.com] and Magnetic Swivel Clip [gopro.com]
don't say it either. Hmm.. we'll need a subscriber to confirm what items are discounted.

Granted, it still requires editing in (free) Davinci Resolve which takes some time to learn and some computing power to handle decently.
