Years ago I had a (half) decent Gaggia silver espresso machine, but it was kind of a hassle to pull a shot. The combo of convenience, consistency, and cost (of pods) I don't think can be beat with the Lavazza blue system.
The intenso pods are amongst my favorite as a nice full bodies espresso. $25 per hundred is actually a very good price historically. I think I have paid around $32-35 on decent sales. For the 2x (double shot) pods, I got some on sale 100 for $40, which is also historically low. So .25/pod here looks good IMO, but I still have to work through the hundreds I already have thanks to SD! lol

My only concern is the expiry date, which is not noted.

Yeah, it stinks that they don't mention the best by or exp date. I figure whatever date they put on them is way more of a suggestion - I have bought expired decaf lavazza blue pods off ebay and I haven't noticed any difference except price.

How do these compare to the dolce? I love those.
I almost exclusively use my shots in milk drinks, so honestly I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between most of the medium to strong pods. I have tried intenso, dolce gusto, and the pink version of expert line (not sure exactly what the flavor is), and the bright blue (not light blue) decaf, and they are all good. I can notice a difference between the single shots and the 2x pods.

* The Vertuo machine fell into my lap after discovering the Lavazza BLUE system. It was an interesting thing that had some neat tricks, but the espresso output did not beat the focused, no-trick, maybe brute-force (by way of big pods with more grounds) Lavazza BLUE.
** I am not saying that the Lavazza BLUE is better than the best of what is possible with a quality semiautiomatic. But the Lavazza BLUE is certainly more consistent and many-folds more convenient than what I have done with semi-automatics. Whether those strengths outweigh the ritual and artistry of grinding/pressing/pulling-your-own is a matter of personal preference and present lifestyle.
Take it as you will, but the pretty Nespresso/Vertuo pods are a great conversation starter for guests (when they were a thing before the new normal/abnormal).
