I noticed Costco just upped the warranty from 3 years to 5 years on both 55 inch and 65 inch. Question- how does one go about obtaining warranty service at Costco in the event it fails within 5 years?

Product page was changed to state 5 years yesterday but still has 3 I believe until tomorrow's sale. The details have 3 listed if you go further down. Service is through Sony (manufacturer). Check out their site:

Ha, true. My assumption would be they are on a pallet and shipped differently from Sony to the store than they would be from a warehouse to my home.

Possibly, but who knows if one way could cause more damage than the other. Two of my family members have had 80+ inch TVs shipped to them from Costco lately and didn't have any issues. Just some food for thought.

If you can wait a few days, RTINGS finished their UN8570 tests yesterday, so the review should be available late this week or early next week. If you have insider access you can see the preliminary test results now. Unfortunately I don't have access.

Because I don't live in the city limits Costco collects the state tax of 4% when they ship and not the total 9.5%. So basically I save 5.5% by having it delivered, which is $53 and not the $58 I had in my other post. I'm in Alabama and our sales tax is ridiculous!

Does anyone know for sure how Costco ships the TV if you order online? Is it from their distribution center directly to your home or they take the inventory from the nearest warehouse to your home?

Two scenarios:

1 – Sony > Costco Distribution Center > Costco Warehouse > Your home

2 - Sony > Costco Distribution Center > Your home

If it's the second case, you might be safer getting the TV that way rather than at the warehouse where more hands touching it (including you and your buddy trying to shove the big 65 inch TV onto the back of the truck/SUV).

I chatted with Costco today and they told me my order will have a 5 year Sony warranty, ordered on September 25th . If you used a Costco visa it adds and additional 2 years.

Tip: TVs should always be transported standing upright to avoid screen damage. Laying the TV flat while transporting can cause screen excessive stress on the screen, especially if traveling on a rough road.
