Based on the information from this thread and another community, I created a guide so that more people can hopefully navigate this deal easier and so questions won't be continuously repeated.

Because this will be a living document, I created a Google Doc for ease of updates: https://docs.google.com/document/...sp=sharing

Note: I am not a T-Mobile employee and this is my first-time doing a trade-in with a Hookup code, so I am learning alongside most people here; thus, my guide may not be fully accurate. Feel free to make suggestions for corrections if you notice any mistakes or parts that lack clarity. And if you found my guide helpful, please post a response here just so I know and will continue doing these. Thank you.

I hope this helps,
Tofu Vic

Since this involves a trade-in, just want to remind folks that you can trade-in in person at a T-mobile corporate location and by doing so, avoid any surprises from mailing in your device

Starting 9/25 get a Galaxy S20 FE 5G for just $200 over 24 months via bill credits when you trade in an eligible device:

Apple: iPhone 11, XS Series, XR, X, 8 Series, iPhone 7 series
Samsung: Galaxy S10 series, Galaxy Note10 series, Galaxy S9 series, Galaxy Note9, Galaxy S8 series, Galaxy Note8, Galaxy S7 series
Google: Pixel 4/4XL, Pixel 3A/3AXL, 3/3XL
OnePlus: 8, 8 Pro, 7T Pro McLaren, 7T, 7, 7 Pro, 6, 6T
LG: V60 ThinQ, G8 ThinQ, G7 ThinQ, V50 ThinQ, V40 ThinQ

Or get one free via bill credits when you add a line.

THIS STACKS WITH THE $200 HOOKUP CODE! Remember, only one Insider Hookup code per account, whether it's the 20% or the $200. See here for details on that promo. Please do not ask for hookup codes in this post.

Please note: This WILL NOT stack with the free line. The free line ends 9/24, and this phone promo begins 9/25. There is NO WAY to get this phone for free using the free line. Please don't bother support trying to do it.

https://www.t-mobile.com/cell-pho...-s20-fe-5g

Click the magenta text at the top of the page to see the offer for $500 off. Must be logged in to see the offer. To see the "free with add a line" offer, open in incognito. Please note the $500 off page currently says "when you add a line and trade in" but the adding a line part is a typo and not necessary.

Aren't you gonna use $70 credit from Samsung store for this?
if youre fine risking no case until your $70 credit + case is delivered, then you should wait if Samsung has a specific case that you want. But Spigen and Caseology are cheaper but still good alternatives.

Id honestly use the $70 credit on galaxy Buds or something

I swear by Spigen. Have used them for years and can attest to their durability and protection.

Let me get this correct. As long as we preorder before the 30th, I should be able to find a type 3 code eventually (and submit within 30 days) and they will both stack, right?
Yes. The type 3 code can only be used after ordering anyway since you need the phone's IMEI. Some folks have had success in pulling the IMEI from the TMO app even before the phone has been delivered. Type 3 codes are out there but may take some work to get to. Check the other SD forum and even the TMO Reddit (employees post codes on their randomly). You could try your luck asking a TMO employee over the phone/chat/Twitter for one—that's worked for a few folks.

I received the following error message when I entered my type 3 hookup code on insider.t-mobile.com website:

Unfortunately you are not eligible for this offer because you do not have an eligible Rate Plan or Data Plan. Please contact T-Mobile Customer Care by dialing 611 from your handset to change to one of the qualifying plans.

My phone has already shipped and I can see phone's IMEI in EIP portal. I am on simple choice plan. Does my plan not qualify for type 3 insider promotion?

Is re-selling the device possible or is it locked to T-Mo or my account for the duration of the 24 bill credits (2 years)? My wife has a Note 8 that still works great, but I wouldn't mind upgrading to a newer phone for her with a better processor, camera, and 5g. My mom still has a Galaxy S7 Edge sitting around as a backup also.

Both phones are worth SIGNIFICANTLY less than $500 at this point so I'd want to upgrade the wife so she can use the new phone and then trade in the Galaxy S7 Edge just to get another to sell (or maybe use for myself).

Have you used TYPE 1/2/3 codes recently, in last two months? Also, make sure you're entering/using the phone number of the line that has EIP on it. Finally, check if code is valid and not used.

This phone number is not eligible for this offer due to not meeting the new line or account activation requirement. If you feel this is an error, please contact us at 1.800.937.8997.

If you've received a Hookup code and want to make sure it works, you can enter it at https://insider.t-mobile.com/lookup
Valid Type 3 codes will show:
Offer Name: 2020 T-Mobile Insider $200 Off
Invites Reserved: 0
Invites Redeemed: 0
Invites Available: 1
What you originally posted is a Type 2 code. As I stated in my guide:
  • If the Offer Name is "2020 T-Mobile Insider $200 Off Device" - note "Device" at the end - that is a Type 2 code and isn't valid for this promotion
I hope this provides clarification,

Hey guys, sorry for the obvious question because I've never had t-mobile, what is the cheapest plan that qualifies for this deal? The cheapest one I see is Essentials for $60 per month.

No. I have never used any of the insider code before. I am only recently aware of this kind of promotion. Yes, I am entering the number of the phone with EIP and the code is valid (I looked it up on insider.t-mobile.com/lookup website).

Just wondering whether anybody is on simple choice plan and registered type 3 code successfully?

Now that people are onboard this deal, what do you fine folks recommend for a case and screen protector? I looked but most stuff is not available until late October. I dare not use a new phone without protection knowing my past history. Any recommendations are appreciated!!
This might be where the $70 of Samsung bucks come in. They have S20 FE cases on their site for $29.99 (LOL) and $49.99 (LOLZ). LMAO

I've also come to swear by Spigen for the best balance of protection and usability. I used the Spigen Tough Armor for my Note10+ smartphone and am currently also using the Spigen Tough Armor for my Note20 Ultra smartphone.

Because of these replies, I just posted my ranking list of Best Smartphone Cases for Protection.

I don't want to go too off-topic in this T-Mobile smartphone deal thread, so if you have comments or opinions about cases, please post in that thread.

Take care,
Tofu Vic
