If anyone receives a code, and doesn't plan to purchase. I'd appreciate it greatly to take it of your hands!

I've been using Jellyfin for almost 2 years. It does recording and scheduling just fine. It has some issues but the dev team really keeps up with issues and requests. Just be warned this isn't a simple download and run, there are quirks that can be real time sucks. It's open source and definitely worth a try as it's free. It's based off emby, so if you're familiar with that, it isn't much different

I saw that they have a docker image, is that one hard to setup too?

I got the lifetime Plex Pass a few years back on a similar sale. Big waste of money for me. I still use Plex, but I don't use the DVR at all, which was the only reason I bought the Plex Pass. I found the DVR/LiveTV functions to be so slow and awkward as to be unusable. Currently using Channels DVR and I'm much happier with that choice for Live TV and DVR functions.
I don't use ChannelsDVR so I can't compare but Plex has become much better in the past year or so with their DVR. There's still lots of room for improvement, don't get me wrong. But it's much improved.

You still have to have a setup to automatically download the shows to your home Plex server, which usually means RSS feeds. ex. https://showrss.info/
Plex Pass just lets you do things like sync the libraries to your devices for offline play, and I believe you can set it to automatically sync a show, so then you always have the episodes as new ones are downloaded. For streaming, though, you can stream Plex to yourself, 99 other friends, to your phone, PC, all without Plex Pass, over local and over wifi. You can view your friend's Plex as well. It's $5 for the phone app (iOS/Android) but it's completely free on any streaming stick (Fire Stick, Roku) and free on Windows, Mac, and Linux.

There are some other Plex Pass features like some music support, not having to pay for the mobile app anymore (I think friends may be included in this), and there are more viewable statistics for your Plex users, as well as an added GPU-enabled transcoder option.
Apps are free if you have plexpass lifetime.

Anybody using Plex having the same weird live tv issue I am? If I watch shows live, when one show ends and the next begins, it goes back to the start of my viewing session. Like if I start watching Seinfeld halfway into an episode and then it ends and the Simpsons comes on, about 30s into the Simpsons, it'll flip back to when I started watching Seinfeld. If I stop playback and restart, I'll begin watching the Simpsons. It only started during one of the recent server updates.

That said, while Plex isn't perfect, I have found it very useful now that WMC7 is gone. Many great features and they work very hard to improve it. I currently run two servers with a total of 5 OTA tuners, though I used to have an HD Homerun Prime as well.

I've never used Plex before, but of course I've seen it posted a million times here. I don't have a lot of the more advanced features it offers. Just want good easy recording of shows and series. But I'm willing to pay $75 lifetime if it fits the bill on those two fronts. I'm done fiddling with substandard options.
Yup. And with Plex Pass, it'll strip the commercials out of recorded shows too.

I paid $4.99 to try Plex Pass as I don't know how much longer I'll keep the HTPC on Windows 8.1 with WMC, and wanted to see Plex's potential.

I agree with you and found Plex slow, awkward, and buggy compared with WMC for live TV DVR functionality. Going to try Jellyfin soon, looks promising. As I am using an internal 2 tuner hauppage card, I can't get Channels but might have to bite the bullet and spring for the network tuner it requires.

I do still use Plex almost daily for streaming the media that WMC records. Works great for that. It's just not even close to as polished as WMC for Live TV + DVR. But then again, nothing is.
