Is this good enough for just backing up using Macrium Reflect? I don't need streaming capabilities.
I have an older version of this and use Macrium Reflect. In short, it is way better than "good enough"...if you're wanting something just to run backups against, get an external HDD. If you want to dabble in all that a NAS has to offer, this is a decent entry point (although I'd recommend upgrading the RAM if you intend to do anything more than backups).

Thanks. I do have 2 externals. I use one to do my daily updates then once a month I clone that to the second external. The monthly manual clone is tedious so I was hoping to setup a RAID1. I can firewall it off so it's only accessible via my main PC and laptop.
How's Qnap versus Synology? I'm looking for something with a simple OS, easy to manage. Plex server support would be a bonus. I have too much media between my devices, I think it's time to centralize all of them.
Not looking for anything enterprise level here, but I think small business/home business power is ideal. I think the basic home use ones are a bit too weak. This one, or wait for another deal?
I Think a two bay RAID 1 with external tape backups would be enough.
Does Qnap take well to recording as a backup onto LTO tape media?
more than enough, this is a capable file server, even for SOHO use.

Synology had the "friendlier OS" way back but QNAP has closed the gap.

If all you want is plex, you can save money just buying a raspberry pi and attach a couple external USB drives in raid1..
