If you want a higher quality and brighter screen, you need to pay extra for higher end models. Don't expect that a $500 Laptop to come with a powerful Processor, nice build quality, 1080P IPS display, good amount of Ram and storage and then again a display with 500 nits brightness and 100% sRGB coverage.
I have the exact same model which I bought during the dell amex offer . It's a great machine and the screen isn't that bad and it's definitely usable, unless you are planning to use it for some photo or video editing warranting color accuracy. Ryzen is a beast and to my surprise, the machine is totally quiet most of the time with zero fan noise even with some heavy usage . I just swapped the mem module to 32gb and there has been no lag whatsoever. For casual browsing and multimedia consumption , the 8gb is sufficient.
OP do you recommend this vs. getting a ThinkPad? I want something that i can use at least for 5years. I am mainly looking for decent build quality as specs of this laptop looks good to me.

Can you please share your experience about battery life and how it holds after a year? Dell consumer laptop always bailed out on battery after a year for me and my friends who had Dell.

Then ThinkPad T series is a better choice, especially with Ryzen 4000 series apu.

agreed 100% but it's too bad there's not even upgrade option for people willing to pay for the better parts. of course this was all done on purpose so people have to compromise somewhat.
Is it worth upgrading to the 4700 for 100 bucks more? With tax it's about 650 shipped.
I just need a laptop to do work, watch media on my TV and maybe some very light video editing. Would like fast speeds and decent battery life. Current laptop is 7 years old.
Thank you! Is there a deal going on? What is the right price range for that? I really want to get one during this season.
Search ThinkPad T14 here. I have posted a deal at $940 but that comes with highest end 8 core 16 Thread 4750u, 16gb of ram and 400 nits display. You can configure it as per your requirements like choosing Ryzen 5 4650U 6 core 12 thread processor, to reduce the price. If you have Perks at Work account, you can get it almost $100 cheaper.

Thank you! I was exploring that deal rn. Currently using work laptop T470 i7 6500U and 8GB RAM. It suffice my needs, based on this do you think Ryzen 5 is good enough for me in that T14? Or should I opt for Ryzen 7?

Ryzen 5 is about 30-40% faster than i7 6500u so you will be getting a good upgrade.
