Deal Details
I just purchased this water heater, normally $1299, for $799 + tax + $75 shipping.
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rheem.../312742081

Steps to get deal:
1) Go to above link
2) Change store to zip code 15010(Edit: use Zip 97322 for $699 instead of $799)
3) Select Ship to Home (unless you happen to live close to this store), add to cart.
4) Check out.

Additional notes:
1) Federal tax credit of $300. State tax credits vary, in my home state we get an additional $400 (bringing this heater down to $99 + $75 shipping + tax).
2) For many/most, the $75 shipping is worth it even if you can get this price locally as these heaters are quite heavy and supposedly must be transported vertically.
3) Do your homework on these hybrid heaters before purchasing. You need 220V to operate. Installation expense is generally much higher with hybrid electric vs standard electric resistance heaters and gas heaters. Hot water recovery is very slow (but you can switch to standard electric mode for rapid recovery when you know your usage will be high, e.g. having company over). They can apparently be loud, so if this will be located close to a bedroom, important to think about. There are important climate and installation location factors to consider--just google.
4) The newest generation of this series from Rheem, called "Proterra" can be had for $1269, a slight discount compared to full price (15% for my location). After carefully examining specs, photos, etc - it seems that the only difference with the Proterra series is built-in leak detection with auto-shutoff. FYI if that feature is important to you, you can add it for $219:
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rheem...513?NCNI-5
5) This is for 50 gallon. Looks like if you need 65 gal or 80 gal, the Proterra is actually on sale (whereas the Performance Platinum is full price), making the Proterra cheaper.

I personally would never by a Rheem, they don't stand by their warranty.

We have a regular Rheem gas-only water heater. It came already installed in the house we bought. A couple years after we bought our house the pilot light would not stay on, so I called Rheem and they sent the parts for free. It was the first time I worked on a water heater, however I had no problem swapping parts.

so i purchased a rheem gas only water heater. Had a professional master plumber do the install... two weeks later it stopped working....

My plumber contacted rheem and he was told that he needs to correct A. He did, the problem was not fixed. Rheem told my plumber he now needs to fix B, this went ON AND ON AND ON. I now how $5K in plumbing bills and the hot water tank still did not work.

Do you think Rheem paid for the repairs? that they told my plumber he needed to do so that the warranty would cover the repairs? The answer is NO.

I am not going to get into the details, I had to sign a non disclosure agreement. But I had to sue to get my money... not fun. The only thing that saved me is that I used a professional plumber. And it took 8 months for me to get my money.

I have a 50 Gal Electric Water Heater and I am planning to replace it with this one.
This one needs 220V electricity but I am not sure if I have 220v or 110v to my current water heater.
Can someone let me know how I can confirm?
Look at the nameplate on the water heater.

For $5,000 in bills you have not given many details to go by for claiming Rheem doesn't honor their warranty.

Without specific details I Claim B.S.

$5K in plumbing bills for repairs? Why? Even if... just cut your losses long before that much cost accumulates and buy another water heater. Let's say a high end residential Rheem gas water heater is $1,200, maybe $1,500. $5K to fix it, no way. I would have skipped the ON AND ON AND ON part.

For those who self-installed, just curious...

1. How did you move this thing around onto the drip pan? Brute force or had a buddy or made a ramp with some 2x4's?
I used a few short 2x4s from my burn pile. Put three in the pan and three next to the pan. Walked the water heater onto the ones outside the pan, then over to the ones in the pan. Tipped the water heater up three different directions and pulled out the 2x4s one at a time.

You know... it was actually over $6k in bills.

When your hot water tank breaks... you need to follow their protocol. I did not know that it was going to go down like this!!! Again, Rheem has stated that they will only honor the warranty if the plumber follows Rheems proto call. I don't even know how many parts were sent to me (but it was ALOT)... also, this was a rental unit, so I got like a dozen phone calls after the initial installation was done... the problem was, it would work for a few weeks and then nope... nothing. And to make matters worse, I have a Hydro-Air Systems... so no hot water then no heat.

In the end... we were out of town on vacation (beginning of the winter) and of course the hot water tank did not work... my plumber changed out the hot water tank completely and when I tried to return the old one, they gave me a full refund told me to through it out in the garbage (cost me $$$ to recycle), retailer was Zoro (who is amazing).

And again, $6k in plumbing bills... my plumber did exactly what Rheem told him to do... and they offered to reimburse me $1,200.00.... after bitching and complaining, they raised it to $2,700 and they told me that they never offered anyone so much money before... AGAIN, I spent $6k and then I had to sue in small claims court. The day before court they called and offered to pay all the bills (not for the new tank installation).

Very unusual to use water heater as source of heat for Hydro To Air units. It does not have enough capacity to handle it.

yah...

i purchased the conod.. I did not install the heating system.

I failed to mention that.... because of the hydro air heating, I needed a 75 gallon tank Smilie.

And I never told you that I needed to replace the entire A/C system as well... ANOTHER F'ed UP STORY !!! the beautify thing of owning rental property (but seriously, I would have it no other way).

Mine arrived. Shippers never even rung the doorbell. I'm guessing they were trying to run so I couldn't refuse shipment if there was any damage, but the box looks pretty clean to me.

For those who self-installed, just curious...

1. How did you move this thing around onto the drip pan? Brute force or had a buddy or made a ramp with some 2x4's?

2. How did you dispose of the old one? Own a pickup truck and took it to the dump or 1800GOTJUNK?
1) I bought one of the flexible drip pans...just walked the tank onto it and it returns to original shape.
2) I took the old tank via pickup truck to local recycle center.
