Would totally buy a Jazzmaster if they offered this deal. Fender, are you listening?

Not really, these days -- covid and inflation and all. I bought the Strat @ 539 a month back and am generally pretty happy with it.

They are totally different guitars IMO. The Yamaha is a nice instrument, but it has a totally different pickups and neck profile. If you want the chime and quack of a strat, that's what you should be getting.
Right. That makes sense. Just looking for a "do it all" guitar for my daughter who's been playing Acoustic for the last couple years. The Pacifica with Seymour Duncans, Grover locking tuners, and Wikinson trem just seems like you get more value for your money. I'm guessing Fender resale value will be better though.

If I didn't have a house full of guitars and basses and an observant wife, I'd grab another Telecaster, as I play that guitar more than my Ultra Jazzmaster or my Vintera Strat (and others).
I'll trade you a MIM Telecaster for your Ultra JM.

The Pacifica 611 is more of a "do it all" guitar than an SSS Strat. What does she prefer, though, in terms of neck shape, body, looks, and sound?

As for resale, you can predict that reasonably well from past sold prices:

No doubt Smilie

It's a sweet ride, especially with that compound radius neck.

Guitar Center is not having any liquidation sales and they are certainly not closing stores en masse. They will get through this rough time.
Based on what? Unbridled optimism?

when covid ends and the "hobby" craze ends with it.... what do you think happens to guitar sales?

"...The plan will include as much as $165 million in new equity investments from funds managed by its private equity owner Ares Management, as well as the Carlyle Group and Brigade Capital Management, the company said in a statement Friday. It also aims to reduce debt by almost $800 million -- it will get $375 million in financing from certain existing noteholders and lenders, and $335 million in new senior secured notes."

Businesses that have just had 165 million smackers invested in them aren't liquidating anything. The chips on the table have just moved around a bit.

Very true, it definitely almost completely kills any impulse buying... but I would like to know the feeling of wanting a specific guitar... almost any model, of any year... and thinking, I'm going to go order that right now. Then go online and instantly have dozens to choose from... Or even be able to try a few different neck profiles, or nut widths not upside down. I need to make a pilgrimage to one of the all Lefty guitar shops one of these years.

My local guitar shop doesn't stock any lefty's... Unless they get one in on a trade from someone who ordered a new one... But it is understandable, there can't be too many of us. I always wonder the % of the population that plays guitar, then cut that down to the amount of lefty's... It has to be a relatively small number... But I have been decently lucky on finding some pretty nice lefty guitars over the years, so I shouldn't complain.
Further cut down by us lefties who play righty.

True, I didn't even think of that. I didn't even know that was an option when I started, but I've considered trying to learn playing righty in the past few yrs.

Something happened in the past few years,my theory is a few wealthy collector's hoarding or as they say "cornering the market" on used USA models.

I think the SCOTUS ruling(sales tax) in June 2018 killed the ebay market ...who wants to pay tax (again) on a high end used guitar?
