In VA I had it on a concrete slab, with 1/4" rubber sheeting under it.
I RI i framed up a small platform with some 2x6's to keep it off the ground. And then I actually used some old Emergency "space" blankets that I placed underneath to reflect the heat back up. It seemed to work.
Never had any issues in the winter if I left it plugged in. If the power went out, then it would take a couple of days for it to heat all the way back up.
I'm tempted to get one of these and put it on the roof of my current place. Not too tacky for the mideast you think? I'm sure the neighbors won't mind....
That was the one problem forgot to mention that I had with my old one. My dalmatian, popped a few small holes once when he jumped in. A few small patches and it was good to go again.
Can you use an extension cord, is there a certain quality to prevent problems?
What heater did you use for the garage?

I live in the South so it doesn't get extremely cold. For conserving electricity, if I wanted to use the tub that evening, I would start it up that morning, Took about 8-9 hours to get from 72 to 100 degrees, but could easily get to 102 in that time.
I will tell you that the motor for the jets can be fairly loud. Maybe not loud enough to piss off the neighbors, but if you're trying to have a relaxing evening and maybe an intimate conversation, you're going to have to be speaking fairly loudly. The jets are also feel a little bit "cold" as they're just air being pushed through a tube, but it's not bad at all.
It will seat two adults somewhat comfortably. Four adults ain't happening unless personal space and frequent skin-to-skin contact with someone other than your SO is a greenlight for you (kudos).
Overall, I love it. Time will tell if it will hold up, but for $200, it was well worth the investment and turned the impossible (spending thousands on buying and install a real hot tub) into a cheap reality. It will impress absolutely no one, but it will definitely scratch the itch.

Also bought one, this is a great, very accurate review. Btw, are you using chlorine or bromine? Anything else as chems. The chlorine smell and vapors are strong when the bubbles are on.
Jesus take the wheel!
