R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.

As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.

100 apologies for asking questions that have likely been asked in this long thread.....If you are an existing Cricket customer do you have to port over the new number (obtained on eBay, etc) or can you just pop in your old SIM card? Is there any advantage to activating the new number vs. not activating? Will the phone unlock countdown work with old SIM card if the new SIM and account is never activated? Thanks!

This is normal process, if you read at checkout it says enter account number and pin of line 1; if you have more than 1 account number and pin simply wait for cricket to contact you via email when the 2nd line port fails because of incorrect account number and pin.
You can get ahead of them and message them first and give them port information for second line over chat/phone

Sorry, I'm no expert on Sprint suffice it to say that Sprint has a multitude of SIM cards that makes it difficult to figure out which card works with which device.
