You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.
It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.
Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.
back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.

I strongly suspect I will be able to get with Cricket Support and change the port in number after the fact. I mean what do people do who might have accidentally lost their number from letting service lapse? Some things are being done here on good faith obviously, but regardless changing your port in after the fact should be relatively easy. Questionable on whether or not they will allow it if you are porting in from an AT&T mvno though, so you will probably still need to port out to another carrier first before proceeding.
Personally I still plan to use a Tmobile based carrier regardless for some months before activating this new device. It will be opened, and synced to my computer to obtain the ECID in iTunes so I can gather blobs for jailbreaking it later. In the meanwhile I will continue to use another phone until I am ready to upgrade. Would have given them my current number, but it is actually on h2o wireless atm (an at&t mvno) so it did not work, and I never really intended to switch to h2o a couple of weeks ago when I did the transfer, but I needed to due to a strange set of circumstances.
Current thought is 2 orders to get the discounted phone pricing for all 4 phones:
Order 1:
Me + Daughter1 + $60plan +$30second line + Ebay Refer Code
Order 2:
Wife + Daughter2 + $60plan +$30 second line + Refer code from Order 1
Think it will work to combine all 4 accounts together to get the multi line discount?
But yeah if it helps you feel a bit safer lock the card
I was just going to use the SIM cards and activate a different iphone I have to complete the port and then just port the number out to cancel service (and do this twice). So I can just never activate the SIM cards and they'll get canceled with no additional charges?

Because, Cricket is very strict when it comes to unlock requirements - It counts only the days when you actually have the Cricket SIM in the device towards unlock period (180 days).
Assuming that you'd only need the RSIM to use with a different different operator's SIM, this wouldn't help you unlock the device permanently.

Using an RSIM in this phone would have nothing to do with Cricket because the phone isn't registered on their network at that time.
Can we also prepay for the service? I have $25 cashback offer on 2 of my credit cards and would like to know if it's possible to redeem both by prepaying.
Wait a few seconds in checkout, and the total will recalculate
This is for 2 phones and 2 number port
