R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.
As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.
I bought 2 already. total cost $196 for 2 phones. trade in value of SE at apple is $210

Also generally speaking Mint Mobile support will not help people port trial activations, I am surprised there are some here that have had success with that. In a surprise twist though - you can provide other past account info you may have associated with a different number or prior period at a tmobile based carrier (perhaps others) with that trial number and still have an order to go through.

I strongly suspect I will be able to get with Cricket Support and change the port in number after the fact. I mean what do people do who might have accidentally lost their number from letting service lapse? Some things are being done here on good faith obviously, but regardless changing your port in after the fact should be relatively easy. Questionable on whether or not they will allow it if you are porting in from an AT&T mvno though, so you will probably still need to port out to another carrier first before proceeding.

Personally I still plan to use a Tmobile based carrier regardless for some months before activating this new device. It will be opened, and synced to my computer to obtain the ECID in iTunes so I can gather blobs for jailbreaking it later. In the meanwhile I will continue to use another phone until I am ready to upgrade. Would have given them my current number, but it is actually on h2o wireless atm (an at&t mvno) so it did not work, and I never really intended to switch to h2o a couple of weeks ago when I did the transfer, but I needed to due to a strange set of circumstances.

Trying to figure this out for family of 4, all need new phones and 3 of 4 have numbers (open to recommendations for sellers to grab one from):

Current thought is 2 orders to get the discounted phone pricing for all 4 phones:

Order 1:
Me + Daughter1 + $60plan +$30second line + Ebay Refer Code

Order 2:
Wife + Daughter2 + $60plan +$30 second line + Refer code from Order 1

Think it will work to combine all 4 accounts together to get the multi line discount?

Once you've got the phone in your hands you don't have to do anything you don't want to. There's no clawback or penalties or charges.

But yeah if it helps you feel a bit safer lock the card
So I won't get charged anymore if I never activate the phones I ordered? The lines will just get auto canceled?

I was just going to use the SIM cards and activate a different iphone I have to complete the port and then just port the number out to cancel service (and do this twice). So I can just never activate the SIM cards and they'll get canceled with no additional charges?

Yes, it would affect your days remaining to unlock AFAIK.
Because, Cricket is very strict when it comes to unlock requirements - It counts only the days when you actually have the Cricket SIM in the device towards unlock period (180 days).

Assuming that you'd only need the RSIM to use with a different different operator's SIM, this wouldn't help you unlock the device permanently.

It does not only count the days when active. I've had phones off for weeks and the unlock days continue to decrement. If you put the SIM from that line in another phone, that would reset the countdown. It's tied to the line more than anything, so if you take out the SIM and put it on a table for 180 days (actually closer to 175 days in my experience) it will still let you unlock the phone. If the line lapses in payment or the phone/SIM are used on other Cricket lines/devices it will reset.

Using an RSIM in this phone would have nothing to do with Cricket because the phone isn't registered on their network at that time.

Can we request the phone to be unlocked on the last day of the 6th month or should we also pay for the 7th month of service?
Can we also prepay for the service? I have $25 cashback offer on 2 of my credit cards and would like to know if it's possible to redeem both by prepaying.
It usually lets you unlock around 175 days, so it's actually only 5 paid months in my experience. 180 days isn't necessarily 6 full months.

$49 per iphone + $60/mo per phone - $30 multiline discount.

Wait a few seconds in checkout, and the total will recalculate

This is for 2 phones and 2 number port

I purchased yesterday, the port status says you are all set, but didn't receive any shipment. Anyone else in similar position? Port number was a Boost number from eBay

Same situation here - 2 orders are that way.
