R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.
As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.
I bought 2 already. total cost $196 for 2 phones. trade in value of SE at apple is $210

That's the requirement. If you select $30, at checkout or when it recalculates, you won't get the discounted iPhone.

You just need to buy the $60 plan. Use it, throw it away, do whatever you want... Or downgrade the plan to $30/mo after activation if you plan on using it on Cricket for 6 mo to unlock the phone.
Do I have to use it for 6 months to get it unlocked? Or I can just use it for a month and leave it and it will get unlocked after 1+5 months?

You account needs to be active. So you need to pay the minimum monthly plan ($30/mo for 2gb). Once you receive the phone, activate it, downgrade from unlimited to 2gb/mo plan so that your $60 plan becomes 2 month instead. Then go find a referral code to get $25 credit for future month renewal.

In short, you really need to pay extra $95 for the last 4 month if you want to unlock the phone.

As I've mentioned earlier, it typically allows unlock around 175 days, so only 5 months of paid service required.

You can probably activate without opening the iPhone SE... But no, you can't unlock it just sitting in the box and not paying 6 month worth of service (well, $60 gets you 2 mo of 2gb/mo svc + 4 mo on your own, get $25 from referral to supplement future months).

Your phone must be active on Cricket, at least initially by inserting the sim card so Cricket will register it as being used and the sim card cannot be in any device otherwise it would reset the unlock countdown clock.
So in my case I have not opened the iPhone 7 I got from Cricket from the previous deal. Instead I activated the sim in my old unlocked LG I had lying around. When I check how many days I have left to unlock it says 96 days. Hoping I am still able to unlock it at that point.

Seems like Cricket is having issues porting Net10 number... Not sure what's the account number honestly. Some says it's the IMEI and some says it's the last 15 digit of the SIM card (ICCID).
Anyone know the answer to this? I tried both and keep getting the a cricket email with the "we need more details on these accounts" message.

I ended up using IMEI and after updating two times with IMEI, haven't heard back... yet.

Net10, assuming its like Tracfone since they're owned by the same company does not use last 15 of the SIM card like a lot of people have mentioned, at least in my experience. Last time I ported over 4 tracfone numbers to cricket, I had to call Tracfone 611 and ask them for it.

This is exactly what I was planning but I was told by a different user here that it wouldn't work

On a completely different topic has anyone here traded these types of phones with apple via phobio (their partner for online trades) The reviews I found online are far from the best and their trading quotes for these models just got $5 cheaper today, so I assume they will be flooded with these iphones in the next 2-3 weeks

Shouldn't have... Unless you somehow activated. I still have 28 days left in the cycle and I activated yesterday.

Probably. Some have reported this again like the last iPhone 8 deal. Chat or call and complain that they left you without a working phone for a few days and you should get a $60 credit on your account. They did it automatically last time because it happened to almost everyone.
