R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.

As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.

Buying Port-in Number (risky)
Buying RSIM (which may not work in the future)
Referral (You can get banned for abusing it)
Downgrade service
Use 6-months to unlock

All these nonsense while T-mobile is offering free iPhone XR on Cyber Monday for just adding a line.
Buy 6x @ cost of $89.99+tax = $540. ~$600 OOP cost with tax and port in numbers.

Trade in to Apple for $1230 in gift cards. $600+ in free money in Apple GC to buy an UNLOCKED 12 Pro Max (or whatever other combo of new, unlocked phones you wish)

Figure in the port numbers, tax, etc and cash back is a wash. Many are not keeping these to even care about RSIM or 6 mo unlock.

This is free Apple money, but stick with that locked Tmo XR Smilie

Very pleased with entire process. Activation, downgrading plan, referral all went as expected.

Was concerned but got boost number from sdcomputers4less for second order. Number arrived within 15 mins. Even my question about zip (use your own) was answered quickly. Just remember to add area code in message when completing purchase.

Pm if you need a cricket referral. Thanks!

I tried to request a trade in with Phobio. I got an email and the device says :

Device iPhone SE (2nd Generation) 256GB Verizon

Do you think it would be a problem? There is no option to select which version when I requested.
All Apple trade-ins are coming like this. I confirmed with their customer care team. They said only the model matches. Storage and carrier has no bearing on the trade-in value apparently.

I'm not sure about the first part.
But regarding the 2nd part, I did the iPhone 7 deal back in February. I barely used the phones and usually charged them once every 2 weeks.
I successfully unlocked the 7's. So it doesn't seem to matter if you put them in airplane mode or if they are off.

The issue starts when you swap swims and it MIGHT reset the timer.
I have tested by inserting my main sim in iphone se and the counter didnt reset. it went down from 175 days to 173 days to unlock

You can check this iin AccountSettings -> Unlock Phone: Get Code -> Request Unlock --- on the phone you want. it validates and displays the message similar to "Eligible for unlock in 173 days"

Great! Hopefully my trade-in boxes will arrive soon.

I also place 4 separate orders using the same address. For the first two orders, I used the normal address. For the second two, I simply put the apt number in the first line and the street address in the second line, and the orders went through. I have received three of them, and the last one just got shipped this afternoon.
Thanks for the heads up -- anyone else confirm that recent shipping label has both address lines printed on there?

In the past Cricket would sometimes cut off the 2nd line so only 1st line was on the shipping label laugh out loud

People are saying sim card needs to be in for all six months. If taken out, the countdown timer for unlock starts. If the phone goes on airplane mode or switched off, does that apply to these also?
Well my timer is stuck at 179 days. I did not mess with the sim, sim is in the phone, its simply turned off. If it still says 179 tomorrow (third day at 179) I will turn the phone back on and leave it on and see what it says.

Well, it is actually very interesting: even though I put the address into two lines like

Apt 1
100 Main St

or

100 Main St
Apt 1

in order to bypass the "two per household" limitation, the shipping labels of the three packages that I received all show the address as:

100 Main St Apt 1

It seems Cricket always (at least to my case) use the (USPS) standardized address for shipment, and thus the address on the shipping label is not necessarily identical to the address that one entered when placing the order.

In fact, for one of the orders, I even replaced "Apt" with "Room" when placing the order, but on the shipping label it still shows up as "100 Main St Apt 1" instead "... Room 1".
