recent previous deals for reference.

got this last time and so far so good.

something to watch out for during shipping is that they will send you the 10 piece kit and separate additional pieces. well, with those additional pieces you might get charged for faster shipping even if you have prime. I had to chat and put my foot down to get that additional shipping back.

i did have 2 different motion sensors trigger a tamper alarm in the middle of the night. a simple open and close of the sensor fixed that. so, at pairing when you pull the first time plastic battery tabs you might want to open and close the sensor.

ebay has good prices on additional pieces like 2 contacts for ~$25, motion for $20-25, and others.

you do not have to buy the gen2 first alert smoke alarm with the scanable QR code. you can use the gen1 without the QR code. ~$30 ebay

The Ecolink garage door tilt sensor can be had for $16-30 ebay.

when it comes to the dome sensor, it definitely is NOT worth $40. battery operated and not loud at all. they can sometimes be found on ebay for $20-30. i plan to hack a couple with a relay to trigger a siren horn.

if you get the ring cam, there is a known bricking issue where when you set them up and they immediately update the firmware they can brick. I did have to exchange one.

if you get the Lighting hub, there is a known issue where the hub will not communicate with older android cells during setup when it links to your cell to get your router ssid and password. if you have that happen just use a newer cell or tablet.

if you have keypads chime in addition to the hub they will be slightly out of sync (if even tells you this). sounds like an echoing effect.

if the keypad red wifi light comes on then you need to use the plugin range extender between the hub and keypad. rule of thumb if you have a good sized house you want to use one repeater in each room or so. additional can be had for $20-25 ebay.

i use the new ring keypad 2nd gen for both ring and smartthings. to differentiate between i put a transparent colored dot on the ones for smartthings.

Yes, the keypads have a speaker and has voice and chime sounds. You can turn those off for the keypads if you want to. The settings are very granular and let you customize each individual piece how you like it.

There is also a Dome siren you can purchase to have additional speakers/alarm presence in or outside the space.

I have been using Simplisafe for past 8 years and love it. I have a total of about 32 sensors (water, motion, door etc) and have 4 keypads. I do pay $25 / month for service and they have been excellent. Can someone convince me to go with Ring for all the sensors/indoor cameras which I have a few cameras around house on the $100 plan?

You can also control the individual volume levels on each keypad, done siren, and the base station speaker.

The retrofit kit is hard to find any deal on. It is $150 solid and consistent. I think I have seen it around $130 a couple of times on eBay, but the price is usually much higher than retail!

I just valued my time after for the extra $20 savings, and just purchased mine at the regular price. Good luck!

What do you mean keypad with your existing system ? Do you have an existing Ring system ?

100% you can't hook up two base stations together - they are separate.
I have an existing system and I was hoping that I could make the base that sounds when you open a door louder by adding a 2nd (even 3rd unit since I'm buying 2 additional mainly for the contact sensors and key pad) to other parts of the house.

Apologies for the newbie question: why would two keypads be valuable? For two-story homes maybe?
I have installed 4 of these in homes. No one uses keypads as the app is easier and awesome. You can use Alexa too to arm the system. The keypad is necessary only if you can't find your phone or want to give one time codes out

Unless you can sell all your stuff on a secondary market, seems that you have invested a lot in SS system. I switched from SS to Ring but I can't see ring continuing with $10 a month for ever, especially considering rising minimum wages and likely upcoming inflation

I only saw it for the 8 piece + free echo dot combo. Created a separate thread, there's a picture here: https://slickdeals.net/f/14581483-ring-alarm-8-piece-kit-149-99-with-20-gift-card-on-amazon?v=1

Some said you can only have one base station/siren per household ring system, guess there is the limit if I want to place another siren/base in another room.

isn't the costco deal 10 pieces for $130 is better unless you need the echo dot? The extra 2 pieces should cover more than the dots itself.

Those buying RING system for home use, consider buying the First Alert Z-Wave Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm, 3-pack $80 at COSTCO https://www.costco.com/.product.100487243.html

These will connect with the RING as 2 separate devices each (Smoke & CO) and will notify RING in case they are triggered. If it is smoke trigger, they will call you and the fire dept after confirmation. If CO is triggered, they will call the fire dept right away.

These are necessary for some insurance companies to give you a discount on your homeowner's insurance policy.
