it's truly annoying when a customer cancels an order and requests for a refund in a matter of seconds after they've made the purchase. PayPal does not refund any of the fees that they normally charge you.
So be glad guys if you are a seller on eBay this is actually a very good blessing in disguise.
So I have a pending payment in my account from a customer that purchased something from me for local pickup only. But he lives like 1000 miles away, and he hasn't been responding to my messages to pick his stuff up.
So eventually I'll have to refund his money I assume. So you're telling me after I do that, my paypal account is going to go negative 3%? That doesn't sound right.
I'm guilty of this. I've cancelled my order right after purchasing several times. Probably about 10 times in my life. I've had someone do that to me once, and I don't remember going negative because of it. I don't sell that much stuff.

Buyers have been doing this to get back at PS5 scalpers knowing the seller will eat fees.
Now eBay immediately takes 10% for the sale and another 2.5% for processing fees. So 12.5% total. This is actually a little less than eBay and PayPal combined.
Until you realize that eBay is also charging the seller 12.5% from the sales tax that the person buying the item paid for "processing the tax" as well. Which I'm pretty sure is illegal since I highly doubt eBay is paying a 12.5% processing fee themselves. They're making a small profit off the seller when the buyer pays sales tax. How can they charge me a fee to process money I never received and make a profit doing that?
So if I sell something for $1,000 eBay collects $125 for the sale from the seller at $12.5% immediately. If the buyer also pays 9.5% sales tax ($95) then as the seller you pay an additional 12.5% fee on the buyer's sales tax, which never actually touched your account ($11.88) for $136.88 total in seller fees to eBay. So it's more like 13.7% disguised at 12.5%. Super misleading.
On top of this you don't get access to your money immediately. If I get paid from a buyer on Friday. It doesn't even start to transfer to my bank account until Tuesday since it's "processing". Then it finally hits my bank Thursday or Friday because the bank now needs to process it. That's 6-7 days from the buyer sending me the money until I have access to it.
Meanwhile I still have to ship the item to the buyer as soon as the payment comes in. Since it's not the buyer holding up the payment. I usually ship next day after getting paid. eBay claims the payment is guaranteed once they accept it so it's safe to ship. But I don't trust them at all.
Overall I'm pissed that I can't stay with PayPal. Which is a sentence I never thought I'd type lol. Good luck all!
Jeez that's ridiculous. Really tired of eBay. There's no reason imo why someone needs to pay sales tax on some junk I'm getting rid of (I understand this isn't entirely their fault, but still).
PayPal literally provides the same buyer/seller protections for just their 2.9% fee. No bs sales tax and hoops to jump through with other fees. Unfortunately it's hard to find decent alternatives to eBay where things will actually sell. Been trying to sell stuff on Reddit whenever possible

That was pretty scary my first payout since it was completely blind. I had shipped an expensive item days before I could even see the payout pending. Totally anti-consumer system; a real shitty business practice IMO.

But if you wanted to actually get traffic:
-premium listing fee (big % cut)
-subscription store fee
You're getting cut 5 ways with fees if you're trying to sell something. The views and traffic arent there like they used to be. Even their organic search isnt useful for buyers who know specifically what they want.

Paypal was deducting that 2.9% before you got your money too and if someone cancelled the transaction u didn't get that back. I had plenty of transactions for a few hundred bucks that the buyer then said oh never mind. $300 * 2.9% + .30 meant I was out $9. Thanks paypal.
