To a modern standard, sure this has a few years of age. But I'm still using a canon 1D mark III slr release around 2007, and have been eyeing this camera for a long time. It has all the great mirrorless features, small form factor for a full frame sensor, only downside to me is lack of weather proofing and potential Star eater post processing. Once i find it for less than 1000 I'll likely swap over to Sony

Oh dang, this is a great deal for this camera. It is 6 years old going on 7 years, but for $1,200 for a full frame with a 44 megapixel plus 4K recording and picture profiles, you cannot go wrong with this camera. Its a much better camera than the Sony a7ii for sure.

Big difference is this has eye-AF, although the implementation is a bit fiddly, if you can get it to lock it's pretty accurate.

Showing as the "NEW" standard price on Sony's website, so not really a deal.

I paid $1298 with tax 2 months ago, I think this is a really good deal specially if you need that 42MP BSI. A7 iii is still the best overall camera, if you can get the A7 iii with the EDU discount for $1400 it's a better deal, but $1,198 vs $1,698 you choose, A7R ii for more pixels and 1.2M LCD, or A7 iii with faster AF, touchscreen, bluetooth, bigger battery, better ISO and DR, 2 card slot and animal AF, joystick

I use this camera in a professional/hobbyist setting.

This is a great price for a very high megapixel full-frame camera. You do not need to worry about the image quality at all. This camera will produce some stunners and you will be impressed at the amount of detail this thing can pick up (Obviously with the right lens. Don't touch the kit lens and go straight to the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8).

If you're serious about the hobby and looking to upgrade from APS-C perhaps, this is a good camera that will check off many boxes and keep your wallet happy. This camera is excellent for doing landscapes or anything that doesn't require too much fast action (no sports).

However, if you're using it in situations that I use it in, via Street/Documentary, it can be a very frustrating camera to use.

Focus speed on this is not the greatest, but it is good enough. You will miss some of your shots if you don't have time to carefully compose. But I gotta be honest, this shouldn't be too much of a concern.

The biggest issue with this camera is with transfer speed. The a7rii has a limited data write speed of 30MB/s (it's UHS-1). You can not get a faster SD card to remedy this issue. This is the limitation of the camera and technology on the camera.

This will be an issue as each RAW file hits around 80MB per image. You could shoot JPG to avoid this issue, but if you're doing that, you probably don't need this camera, let's be real. There have been countless times where I'll shoot burst with about 10 images and the camera will just stop working to catch up and write. Obviously, this is an issue if you're in a situation that if you wait, you lose the moment.

I can't comment on video. I don't really use it for that. I certainly imagine the transfer speed would be an issue on 4K video though.
