I've been using a TPLink AC1750 for years now and it has worked reliably.

But I am making this post to remind people that buying a router on price only is dangerous. The no/low-name brands can cause you much trouble as this article describes:

Is the 8 port Switch a good deal at $25?
Only $5 off doesn't seem too slick.

This is TP-Link is $20 and 8 ports, metal.

U probably need a mesh router setup and ideally one that's triband if you're not running cable for back haul between main router and the satellites. Costco has the Tplink Deco M9 3pack ok sale for $169 now.
Tnx what about the 2 listed here

Asus RT-AX82U, RT-AX86U, or RT-AX88U
I just bought a Linksys AX6000 for $170 from Best Buy. But if I could spend $250, I would have bought an Asus RT-AX88U
Tnx what about the 2 listed

the ones listed here are not triband but they'll work. just wont be ideal for speed if that's what you're after.

How is tp link firmware? I can no longer log into my linksys router, I get stuck on a waiting screen that is apparently a firmware bug according to forum posts.
The firmware and app only control of the Deco sucks in my opinion. Many missing things last time I checked. Couldn't even set encryption type.

How does AC1750 hold up? I've got a crappy old router and recently got fios 200mbps so looking for an upgrade. Not sure if I should look at wifi 6 options or something like what you mentioned or AC1900, etc.
I bought the AC1750 to upgrade an AC1200 that was spotty with service even in a 1200 sq ft townhouse. I paid around $60 w/tax and pleased so far. It also supports TP Link's version of AI Mesh, so it works far better with the repeater we have too.

You might want to check the TP Link site if mesh network is of interest because not all of their routers support it yet.

This comment goes the other way as well. Don't buy just because it is a known brand or because it cost more so it must be better. There are some good routers out there from companies most have never heard of that are actually really good and some times better than the known brands. As mentioned the key is to research an learn more about what your buying. I've been a programmer for 20 years, 15 of those have been in the cyber security space and alot of the time when I recommend a router or something of the sort too someone it's a brand that most normal consumers are not familiar with.

What is the difference between the AC1900 and the AX1800? I currently use the single modem+router 2 in 1 leased from my ISP. I wish to replace that. Would buying the AC1900 or AX1800 act as my modem and my wifi router? If not, which modem and router combo do y'all suggest for a noob? My internet speed is 500 MBPS.

AC1900 and AX1800 refer to the highest WiFi version they support. AC1900 is Wifi v 5 (802.11ac), AX1800 is WiFi v 6 (802.11ax). If you have any devices that support the newer version, that's probably a better bet. Note that both will still support older versions like 802.11n.

But neither one of these will replace a modem. Typically consumer routers (that is, those not supplied by an ISP) do not include a modem, and you need to get that separately. You should check your cable company's list of recommended modems and buy one of those. This way, if there's a problem, they can't say "we don't support that model".

Thanks. Between modem and router what is more expensive? And which one is more important to have the latest and greatest and which one is a more long term buy and forget?

Question for experts [sorry if its been asked a million times before]

M9 from Costco or X20 from this deal? No back haul; two storey house under 2400 sqft - will be replacing the ASUS cellspot router. TIA.
