For the most part they still work. Personally, this is the type of knife I like buying for my wife. She has no idea how to take care of good knives. She almost never wipes them down to put back up after, leaves them in the sink for long periods of time, and sometimes puts them in the dishwasher because it's easier. These kind of knives are PERFECT for people like her. The steel is soft enough it can take a beating without breaking or chipping. It is about as corrosion resistant as any steel can get. It isn't all that difficult to put a decent edge on them as well either. Although they do get dull quickly. Typically the fatal flaws to knives like this is that the glue breaks down in repeated washing in a dishwasher as the heat will break down the glue holding in the tang. When that happens they get thrown away by most people buying this type of knife.
They also work well with typical kitchen knife sharpener gadgets to get a working edge on them quickly. While they can have a razor edge put on them, it doesn't last long and is more effort than it is worth. Since these are stamped steel and aren't treated properly, they don't tend to hold edges for very long. If I had to guess they typically feel like a 53-54 HRC hardness blades. Which is workable, but far softer than the 60+ HRC of expensive Japanese knives or the typical 55-57 HRC of western style knives. For reference, the 420j steel is used in more well known brand kitchen knives like Cutco, Chicago Cutlery, Calaphon and many others. It is a good steel, the difference is in how the knife is produced. Proper forging and heat treatment all for a far harder knife than what these stamped knives will ever get.
For the price I say you are getting your money's worth. These aren't worth more than the $20 asking price. It just depends on your use case for a set like this. For those that don't care for kitchen knives and only want one to occasionally cut a sandwich in half then these are perfect. I would not want to waste money on better knives for people that will never appreciate it.
As for how this made front page and the knife deal for far better knives I posted the other day barely got any notice makes me scratch my head. The Emojoy steak set I listed the other day is one of the best non serrated steak knife sets I own.

Sorry why not
Because they're probably crap quality...like everything else in her line. Don't get me wrong, her show is cute, but her products have highly complained about quality issues. I wouldn't buy anything a celebrity or channel makes "exclusive" via Walmart tbh. They're basically usually Walmart brand junk with a nicer aesthetic and branded/endorsed by a well known entity for sales. That being said, unless you're getting this as a gift or something, just invest 15 extra dollars in a single good victorinox knife or something instead.
I appreciate the honest assessment, but at some point we need to let consumer Darwinism take its course on those who expect anything useful from a "wildflower whimsy" knife set.
Also, I prefer the Mercer Genesis santoku or chefs knife as my one knife.

Mercer also makes some reputably good ones.
I had a set and one of the tips broke off cutting Pizza rolls that were slightly frozen. Slightly, not by any means frozen solid. Not one of my other brands of knives to this day has that happened with. I microwave Pizza rolls for 27 seconds cut them in half then back into the microwave for 2 minutes. This assures me no scalding hot lava burns

Lesson learned. Microwave pizza rolls for 28 seconds when using a wildflower whimsy knife to cut them.
Better to have one good knife than a bunch of crap ones. But that's just my opinion. And shun is like the Ferrari of knives. You don't have to pay through the teeth getting a shun to get a single decent knife, which is all anyone really needs. But if you want to go for something pretty and value quantity over quality/performance, then by all means, whimsy away.
