My local Planet Fitness is running a deal for a 1 year regular membership for only $99, no annual fee and $0 startup fee, expires December 31st. This promotion is not for all locations so please check to see if your local location is running this promotion here.
It's just not the time for gyms not until this pandemic is under control.
I was going to one up until the 1st lockdown (not pf) brand new building and everything super clean. But They went with a high efficiency insulated building which meant zero air exchange. Last winter the windows dripped and air was heavy from peoples sweat and workouts. They did encourage to wipe off machines but nobody would ever wipe the barbells or dumbbells. 100x of hands must handle those and rub faces all day.
Planet Fitness is the best deal if you are on the road. Nice gym, bathrooms, spa stuff. Black card is well worth it.
The gym is actually great as long as you are somewhat respectable and are not a competitive powerlifter, you can get a very effective workout in this place if you don't mind upping your training volume.
I am a member since 2014 and I haven't seen a cleanliness like this anywhere in US. Every hour someone comes and cleans equipments, crazy.
Great. Unfortunately wiping stuff down does nothing, it's air circulation (or lack thereof) that transmits coronavirus, not touching stuff. The "sanitizing" is mostly theater.
They also fine you $59 for cancellation, and charge an annual fee I believe of $50 or so. Please read ALL of the fine print since I ended up paying way more just to cancel than another gym.
This is a one year prepaid offer, so there would be no cancellation. It just ends after 12 months without any further action. Also, you are incorrect about the $50 fee. There is no fine print. You pay $99 upfront and you receive a one year membership. That's it.
They have this deal every year about this time. They once had 6 months for $50 in the summer (presumably to synchronize everybody on the December renewal).
I hope they offer this again when I have gotten the vaccine. Assuming I ever get it and manage to survive the vaccine itself.

Thanks for clarifying. I am scarred after that experience as I did not read the fine print and must warn others now.

It took 4 months to get masks to healthcare workers. They wont get vaccines to the masses for over a year.
