If your promo doesn't show up in a few days, you can try doing this trick to get it to show up.

Could I use the extra line's sim card and place it in some sort of mobile hotspot device so I can connect my laptop? Unfortunately my Surface Pro 7 doesnt have a SIM card slot for LTE and I wonder if using a mobile hotspot device wont get throttled after the tethering limit that you normally get on making your phone a hotspot.

If yes, does anyone have a recommendation on which device to use?

What's a scam here? There are folks on reddit already doing it. How different it is to share account with bunch of known friends and share cost?
Reddit is a great and strange place. You can say you're sharing your "account" with friends (and making profit), but you're not sharing cost because you don't pay for the line (unless it's taxed).

Admittedly it's not much cost for TMO but it isn't zero. And yes they do benefit by having another customer/line as bragging rights.

How via call, TF or Costco? Do you see free line discount under applied promotions and discounts?

There's a whole community that discusses this, especially for folks who can't get internet otherwise. Using a voice sim in a hotspot has worked in the past but supposedly T-Mobile and other mobile vendors are cracking down, somehow tracking use, and throttling to hotspot data. Do a search on the ltehacks forum, look into setting TTL to 65, mofi4500, we826, things like that. I'm still debating whether to try this with my existing free line, worried about somehow jeopardizing my account or that line with unauthorized use.

I just tried it and it seems to remove and add the promo back.

For me it removed the $6 insider discount and when I add the data back on, the same $6 discount appeared again.

I called directly if you find busy time then have them call back so got a call back in 30 mins. She was not aware of any kind of SOC code or whatever. But anyways they have promotion and she added 1 more line free and she said it will not cost any taxes and fees also. Still not sure how.
Not only that she waived off/credit back any new activation , new sim stating kit charges as well.
Thanks for the post.
