DO NOT use that smart network feature (merges both networks under one SSID). Keep your 2.4 and 5gz separate. No issues with home IoT devices like echo dot, wifi bulbs etc. I bought this router recently and that was my only issue. Once I split my network, it has been running flawlessly for almost 3-4 weeks now. No issues with devices joining.
Most IOT devices only work with 2.4ghz

Just a heads up, I set up this router yesterday and had trouble connecting Amazon products. After hours of troubleshooting, the only solution I found that worked was to create a guest WiFi network and connect them to that.

I set up a Netgear AX5200 a month ago and we had problems with both of our Fire Sticks. They would only see the 2.4 GHz band where they were attached to the 5 GHz band on our old router. I did firmware updates and restarts on both of them and it solved the issue. Hope that helps.

Most smart things run on the 2.4 GHz band because it has better penetration and you typically stick smart thing in corners, hugging walls, and generally being rooms away from the router. Line of sight and mesh capabilities are increased with Wi-Fi 6 but you still have the age old problem of "the living room TV blocks wifi reception for people in the bathroom etc.

I had an ASUS AX1800 router for a couple weeks and always had issues with my iPhone and a couple other devices. I returned it but learned later that AX isn't fully worked out. Most people recommend forcing everything to AC for the time being until all of the latest drivers get distributed.

I don't understand that issue still exists with Asus. It's a problem they've had for a few gens with different models. Ive generally had good experiences with Asus until my 86U exhibiting something similar.
Amazon Echo issue seems to be with Echo's limited 5GHz channel support. Info based on Google search when I had similar random issues with my AC router.
I already have an Asus RT-AX88U as my main router with Fios 200 Internet. I have a 3000 sq foot house and my main router is in 1 corner of the house. Would this make a good Ai- Mesh additional router?
