Wow great deal. You could use the S20 as a stepping stone to the S21 by trading it in next year. You may even get more than $400 trade in credit.

Just a fair warning. Google Fi has worst customer service ever. i had an agent telling me that my specific email was eligible for a promotion and got the transcript in email. I was found ineligible later and none of the reps were willing to honor the promotion because their customer service themselves gave ne the info. They strictly go by their automated system and none of the agents will override it even if its a mistake from their end or their system...

Yes, a full service plan. Not a NEW full service plan. I already have one that I intend to activate the phone on.

I'm not trying to argue here -- just from what I got from the rep and the language in the Promotion Terms, it seems like it would work. Plus, I'm anxious about the deal and would like to know if I qualify...

If I have the chat saved, will they credit me even if the rep was incorrect?
No. I have bad experience with Fi chat support. They will not honor saved chats. They will just apologise and tell you you are ineligible if their system finds u ineligible. I had an issue with Pixel 200$ promotion last month. I specifically mentioned to agent that i had Fi a year back and agent looked and confirmed that my email was eligible for promotion and asked me to go ahead and activate Fi using that email to claim promo. It didnt work, chat support didnt help, escalating didnt help. I didnt even qualify for the $150 promo that they were giving to "existing customers" because i was past customer and not currently existing customer. I didnt get $200 promo for new customer because i used to be an existing customer. Dont rely on them. If the system finds u eligible, you will get. Else no one will help you from Google. Finally i returned by device.

And I just came to this thread seeing Google Fi is back running promotion to warn fellow people on Google's stupid customer service and promotional malpractices. Peace out !!

I'm on vacation right now in the usa. do I have a chance to get this promotion? I will be going in February. Can I leave the 3 months of google fi paid while I use the phone in my country or at least pay it while I use it in my country?
Actually Fi offers free roaming but not free data so you can technically get the phone and just keep the plan active for 90 days and you would be good.

You can also get 20 off of the second month. You can PM me for more details

Pretty sure you will be getting a $600 additional charge if you don't keep it active on Fi for 90 days.
You can turn off the phone or use a different SIM on the phone. Just don't ever put the Fi SIM into a different phone. If you do that, Google Fi is going to know your Fi line (SIM) is used on a different phone (IMEI) and invalidate the $600 promotion credit.

As a former Google Fi customer I can add a couple of things. Because they use so many services, I kept dropping calls as my Google Fi supplied phone kept bouncing from service to service. I was sitting down most of the time and I live just outside a major US city and everybody provider has coverage here, that's the problem.
If you do a great deal of overseas calls this is your phone, they have great rates and coverage. Domestic only, Meh. Data charges are downright silly. That's why I left. I only use 2 GBs/ month but at $10/GB that adds up. Keep looking if you use a lot of data. Yeah they have a max charge of $60 or $70/ mo for data + basic service but you can do much better elsewhere.
Customer service at the start of the pandemic was awful. It may have become better but at top shelf pricing I expected better. They charge you to port away from Google Fi BTW.

The rest of your post seems accurate, but I just ported 4 numbers away from Fi and wasn't charged for a single one of them.

Google Fi really only shine in two use cases. One is you do a lot of international travels. The 2nd one is one voice line comes with 4 free data SIMs (used to be 9) which share the same data bucket. The data SIM cannot make phone calls or texts. But it is great to give them to your kids, or grandparents who are mostly on wi-fi, but occasionally need data when being out.

How sure are you of this? There seem to be conflicting reports....

FI chat is YMMV.

Recent example - I have $20 credit in my FI account and I chatted with the rep last week to apply $20 credit towards my current month due $15. She said I applied the credit and it will be updated in 24 hours. I am sure she didn't do anything because in all carriers, adjustment are instant. It is more than one week nothing happened and autopay cleared $15 on scheduled date. Two cents are - Don't trust FI chat rep words and better don't touch your existing account.

If you activate with existing line and after 90 days, you may get a msg like you didn't activate the phone with new line. Try to avoid unnecessary head ache with Fi. Lot of stories in Reddit.
As much as I would like to know if this can be activated with an existing Fi line but I totally agree that Fi customer service is a nightmare to deal with if things go sideways.
I cannot emphasize enough how bad it is. Just some lame duck agents who's only refrain is specialist will get back to you.

I beat you for 2 days Tux, I need 16 days more. Lol. If it's me, easiest port number is to get a Tracfone number for $10 and be done with it. $600 is too much to risk.
How do you get a number for $10 from Tracfone? Cheapestet plan I see is $15.

In other Fi threads, this is a constant topic. I think it makes sense. How Google is going to know you turn off the phone or use a different SIM on the phone? I can be going to a remote island for a few months and never have the cell signals. Google will only know if the Fi SIM is registered on the network but on a different IMEI than the phone you have purchased.

Based on my experience and several posts in reddit, it is better to create new GMail account and get the number from eBay and buy the device for $400. If you use ref, you will get $20 which is good for second month for $20 plan ( Only talk and taxt - $10/GB). Port out after 90 days.
You don't need to port out unless you want to keep the number. It's unlocked and no contract. 90 days of service is just to make sure your card doesn't get charged the extra $600.
