Wow great deal. You could use the S20 as a stepping stone to the S21 by trading it in next year. You may even get more than $400 trade in credit.

I read that Snapdragon 888 processor is having overheating problem similar to A14 on iphone 12. The X1 core seems to be too powerful for the cooling solution in the phone.

Maybe S20 could be the right choice for me.

Can you note a reference? A quick google search didn't return anything of the sort.

I have been using the phone a few days. The biggest inconvenience for me is that when using fingerprint to unlock the screen, I don't know exactly where I should press on the screen exactly. It is also a bit slower to respond than my Pixel 3XL. Does anyone knows a trick or two to fix/alleviate this problem? Thanks.
Coming from a Pixel as well and I noticed the same thing. While it is slower than the dedicated hardware on the pixel, I find it adequately fast. It is faster than I expected it to be.

The real problem for me is you have to put your finger in exactly the right spot which you can't do by feel. I am sure I will get used it.

Well worth the other trade-offs with the pixel.

Yep same here too. But, my case has a plastic screen cover and the spot for the fingerprint is thinner and visually different than the surrounding plastic and it is a bit distracting while browsing the net but otherwise will eventually phase it out. Yes, it is about twice as long as the pixel dedicated sensor. I find myself pressing more firmly on this device as well at times. The Pixel has a similar plastic screen protector so may be my issue only?

I would be curious if it is any better without the screen protector. It should come with a screen protector pre-installed so I guess you have two levels of screen protector or did you remove the original?

There's another plastic screen protector below the plastic protector with hole near the fingerprint sensor.
If you look at the front facing camera at an angle, you'll see it.

I'm thinking this plastic might be reducing the efficiency of the FP scanner.

Another thing is,unlike oneplus the s20 doesn't have unlock hepatic feedback so you don't know right away when the phone is unlocked...

A71 does it too.
Yeah, the FP sensor performance on S20 is disappointing.

Anyone else experiencing a delayed shipment? Ordered on 1/10, originally said it was going to be delivered by 1/26 - 1/27, but it ended up getting shipped the next day on 1/11 via Fedex. The estimated delivery date updated to 1/13 - 1/14 on Google Fi page, but on 1/13, FedEx updated the scheduled delivery date to pending shipment.

I contacted Google Support and they are now saying it will be delivered by the original date 1/26 - 1/27. Seems odd that the package was shipped and in transit through the FedEx system and just stopped moving.

Yes the OEM and the one that comes with the case. I'm guessing a glass screen protector may not work with the fingerprint reader either

I guess they decided it was better to offer haptics on a failed fp scan and use audio for a successful one. Seems like an odd choice though.

Playing with the FP scanner more and it is actually pretty fast. The problem, as others have stated, is that you don't know when it is done. It finishes scanning well before you get a visual or audio cue that the phone is unlocked.

For anyone wondering about using the phone with your non-fi carrier, I've now gotten an email by Google with my first bill and there's no charge.

I activated the fi sim via the fi app in the S20 the moment I received it and installed all the updates then did a factory reset which also deleted the app. While it was booting during factory reset, I took out the fi sim and inserted my main carrier sim and I have not yet received any notification on my credit card of any $600 charges.

My next bill is February 15th. If google deems I have broken the promo criteria, I'd believe I would see it by the next bill. I am extremely confident you can use the phone with another carrier sim as long as the fi sim is not used in another phone. Will report back if I get charged.

Anyone planning to trade in their $399 Fi S20 for an S21? The newer processor is the only thing interesting about it, really.
