I activated the fi sim via the fi app in the S20 the moment I received it and installed all the updates then did a factory reset which also deleted the app. While it was booting during factory reset, I took out the fi sim and inserted my main carrier sim and I have not yet received any notification on my credit card of any $600 charges.
My next bill is February 15th. If google deems I have broken the promo criteria, I'd believe I would see it by the next bill. I am extremely confident you can use the phone with another carrier sim as long as the fi sim is not used in another phone. Will report back if I get charged.
As I see it the only way this is even marginally a deal is if you were at or near the end of a MVNO prepaid term and were needing new service anyway - then 90 days of Fi makes sense.

Fi service is very expensive if you are a moderate to heavy data user.

Where can I get a guaranteed brand new S20 with oem warranty for $510 (the amount I'll end up total expensing after 90 days)? Genuinely curious.
If there was, I would have bought from there. I was actually looking at a used S10 because I loved that phone and it's getting android 11 soon.
The thing with the S20 is it'll hold enough value down the road for me to possibly get more out of later for another sammy or other phone than what I paid for it.
Just today, I got 5G in my status bar while I was in an area I don't frequent for about 20 minutes, so there's that.
Edit- grammar

Any case, for me it makes more sense since I'll use Fi for 90 days and probably cancel since I despise their stinginess on data.

Terms and condition does not suggest, I need to keep the device.
A new Fi customer is somebody who is new to Google Fi on either a new plan, or a new member as a part of an existing group plan.
To qualify for the $600 discount, you need to:
Activate the Samsung S20, S20+, or S20 Ultra on a full service plan (data-only SIMs do not qualify) within 30 days of the shipment confirmation email and remain active on Google Fi for 90 consecutive days.
You must also bring/transfer your number to Fi within 30 days of the shipment confirmation email. Fi-to-Fi number transfers are not eligible.
If you choose to get a new number, you will not receive the $600 discount.

Does anybody know if for family accounts on Fi, is the credit available for the entire family or just the number ported? I'd like to add a new account to the family account, port a number on it to get the 50% credit and then remove the service after 3 months. Of course it only makes sense if the credit is applied to the family, otherwise it'll disappear once the line is disconnected.
Does anybody have any experience with that?

If I don't want to port my main number from Verizon,
Step 1) Obtain number to port in such as ebay and pay $7 for like a boost mobile number.
Step 2) Buy the s20 from fi
Step 3) when the phone arrives activate it using the boost mobile number and just not use the sim in another phone for 90 days
Step 4) cancel fi after 90 days
Step 5) insert my verizon sim in the s20
price of phone + tax + price of number to port in + 3 months of fi + tax = total
$400 + $30 + $7 + $60 + $4.50 = $501.50
