For what it's worth, we took advantage of a previous deal to trade in an old Dot for a discount on a 4th Gen. We currently have a handful of 3rd Gens, this was our first 4th Gen. The sound quality is noticeably worse than the 3rd Gens. The sound is hollow, tinny, lacking depth and bass. We're not expecting full Echo quality here, but my wife and I both agree the sound is definitely poorer. Our 3rd Gen Dots are at the default audio settings--even turning the bass all the way up on the 4th Gen didn't make a significant difference. Amazon swapped it out in case it had been damaged or was defective, the replacement sounded the same. We returned it and picked up a 3rd Gen instead.

Interesting. I cancelled my order... I didn't really need them anyway but definitely not if sound quality has gone down.
