There is a more affordable variant of the Tesla Model Y available. Now starts at $39,990 ($2k price cut) for a RWD 244 mile version. Those in CA will get $1500 additional off at time of purchase bringing it to $38,490 from Clean Fuel Reward (no income limits).. Some may also be eligible for the $2000 CVRP rebate but there are income limits. For those out of CA your state may also have additional incentives, I believe NJ had $5000 off (expired for now but may return) and you aren't charged tax on an ev making it an even better deal. The 7 seat config has been released as a $3000 option.

I love the car to some degree. My X had so many problems and my friends Y is no better with QC. But for what it costs to drive one on the west coast, its the "in" car for now. stonk makes ZERO sense to me still though. Congrats to Elon, in the year of Pandemic to go from 27B to 180B plus in net worth to become top dog is stunning.
*laughs in NIO and PLUG*
Right there with you, brother *fist bump*

No apple carplay or android auto - biggest leap in car infotainment since navigation. The screen is nice and big, but lacking these options is a big deal.
Also the 7 seat option in this car is kinda pointless. Not enough space or access to be practical. Get the model X if you need the third row, the extra space helps
The fit and finish is also lacking, considering how much you're paying. On brand new cars purchased within the past year models Y and X, I've personally seen issues with paint, body panel alignment, trim coming off. Real amateur hour issues.
I ordered the ID4 over a model Y for these reasons.
Tesla sells 100 cars and tesla market goes up another 100 billion. Its a funny business.
Elon could literally buy 100,000 cars for $3 billion, dump in a ocean (or get rid of those whatever way), pumping up the sale. Market will crazy on "huge beat", cap will go up another 500 Billion and he'll come out net $97 Billion in gain.
Each tesla car sold adds $2M in market cap.
This is beyond nutcase.,
I'm ok with the pricing and panel gaps and but right-to-repair is a huge deal for me since I keep all of my cars for the very long term. Rich Rebuilds on YT has shown firsthand how vindictive Tesla can be on this front with repairs as well as mods...Disabling ALL L3 charging (not just suoercharging) because a car is a salvage title is overstepping bounds. Very Apple-esque
Until then, Tesla will have to survive eating the lunch of BMW and Audi (with whom their cachet and value propositions compare very, very favorably to) , but won't get anywhere near the bread-and-butter folk who drive Toyotas and Hondas.
Repairs with Tesla vehicles are going to be much fewer by a wide margin than ICE vehicles purely because BEV's have fewer moving parts. I've got a friend with a Tesla nearing 100,000 miles and hasn't ever had to do a single repair.. no oil change and other than a software update that he had to get (free), he's never had a reason to worry about any 'repairs.' As for the Toyota's and Honda's you are referring to, the objective of Tesla was to ALWAYS have a mass market vehicle. They've been planning a budget sedan for $25,000 for a long time and just announced it late last year. Once they manage to do that at the current pricing and push out more superchargers, you're going to see a huge shift of people switching to Tesla vehicles. It's not a question of if but when. No car manufacturer is more ahead of the EV game than Tesla is from a product standpoint. They might have cheaper and also effective vehicles but they won't match the capabilities of a Tesla vehicle.
as to the quality etc. it is true that these cars are not mercedes or bmw or even honda or toyota. but it is really nice to get over the air software updates on a regular basis and the M3 performance at least is really fast. since i only leased mine i really don't care about the quality issues (which all seem cosmetic) and since these EVs are really quite simple mechanically i'm not super worried about repairs. neither my leaf, nor bolt, nor M3 ever requireed any maintenance, let alone repairs.
