Best Identity Protection Service?

I already have a basic credit monitoring service that is provided for free via Discover credit card.
Recently, I was notified that someone managed to open a credit line in my name from this service. I managed to catch it in time and they were able to get it closed. I followed up with the creditor as well just to be sure.
However, I have gotten another notification that my SSN/etc was found on the dark web and I fear it will only get worse.
I have been looking at different ID theft/protection services online but it seems like each "comparison" I find is paid for by the company that scores #1.
Do any of you have first hand experience with different companies and info that would help someone decide one over the other?

Freezing your credit is free and relatively simple to do.You'll need to contact the 3 major credit bureaus separately and provide your SSN, birthday, and personal information. You'll be given a password, which is what you'll also use to unfreeze your credit when needed.

They have my SSN along with all the usual password recovery information so I now use a very cryptic answer for each security question like the number of letter in the first word multiplied by the numbe rof letter in the last that number in words is my answer so: "who was your first girl" is 4x3=twelve for the answer
