Serious. Plex is a home media server that you can use to organize a collection of ripped media (eg, DVDs, blu-rays, etc.); it's essentially like running Netflix or Prime Video on your own server (and the phone app supports automatic uploads of camera pics/vids to the server). DrivePool lets you take a bunch of drives and present them to the system as one big drive with redundancy (but it's not RAID), and there's an entire reddit dedicated to data hoarding and the best ways to do it. I currently have 24TBs in my media center provide ~10TB of useful capacity after the various levels of duplication that I've set.

That's quite an interesting setup.
Of course if you have that much data then it's best to go your route because buying that much space on any online service will cost a fortune.
But the cost of building that kind of service will perhaps be about $600 (guessing) which will be 10 years of service if you buy online. So the ROI will be about 10+ years based on my assumptions, more if the cost is more or less if I assumed higher.

Amazon photo is free if you have Prime.

I have prime but I keep stopping the service for a few months or a year. I don't like subscription services at all even though all models are now moving towards subscription.

Will try Amazon prime also as a backup but best would be building own server with a backup or 2 locally and then having only the necessary photos on online backup

Don't forget he's also paying $60/year for Backblaze cloud backup. The main benefit of his setup is a large local media server. Phone and photo backup is just a bonus. There are easier and less expensive options for phone and photo backup if that's all you want.

HDD space is ~15/TB new, ~$12/TB used. So 24TB used is $290. You can pick up an old E5-1620 HP Z420 with 16GB ECC RAM and win 10 pro for $200 shipped ... far cheaper than any comparable NAS. So for hardware, you're looking at ~$490. I think you underestimate how much 12TB of cloud storage costs per year unless you only want to do backup, in which case you can get something like Backblaze or Carbonite that's unlimited.

I have S9 and would love to upgrade to another Samsung S series. As a 4G phone, this one is still priced high.
agree with you there. this is an s10 but still 4g for $500. i rather spend a few extra buck and try 5g at least.

Wondering where you are seeing this? I am not:

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sams...Id=6426276 [bestbuy.com]

Edit: I guess they do have it open box in "fair" condition if you can find it, though it's OOS by me. (I was just wondering what the going rate was for these; up in the air between this and a OP8.)
I don't see anything (even open box fair condition) going for that low of price either. Also, it is only 128GB model (not 512 like this one) though it IS 5G version though (is unlocked 5G version work for all 5G network? Or only for Verizon OR t-mobile?

People still use 4g phones?

Yep, i have an s9+.. I still dont need the 5g speed. My phone still pretty fast, takes good pictures, play games good, etc...whats does my s9 does not do compared to s20 or s21? Maybe just a tad faster, better camera? Dont have to see the epidermis of everyone in the pictures, or chlorophyll of every plant.

Dude the S20FE is only slightly more than this... they even have open boxed models for 449 at bestbuy.

The FE is a great deal!

Shouldn't we buy S21 instead of this deal to be more future proof as of today?

Currently have the S10+, and love it. Some perks about this phone (and the S10 and S10e) that the phones released after this are...

Headphone Jack
Expandable Storage
Bixby Button (UNDERRATED, you can use an app to program it to do cool stuff)

The Bixby button is so useful for everything that it was not meant to be used for. I have it set up the following way -

The app is called bxActions
1 tap - lock or unlock screen orientation (this way, it gets hit once on accident, nothing crazy happens that anyone around you would know about)
2 tap - Next Song
long press - media play/pause
Double press and hold - Flashlight on/off

All of these features work great for me as a runner, as I don't have to look at my screen and can adjust the music.

Outside of this, wireless charging is great, absolutely no issues with the phone. I'll be sad when I lose my programmable button, and when I lose the ability to throw a micro SD card in it. I haven't plugged anything into the headphone port in quite a while, but the headphones the phone comes with are also great. Great screen. Don't know if I'll ever be as comfortable with a phone as I am with this phone.

i agree with you. this has been my favorite phone thus far. the only complaint i have is the awful finger print reader. its slow and it is inconsistent. even after all of the tricks to make it work better. otherwise... love the thing and plan on keeping it for a few mor years.
