Just so everyone knows if they don't already, NVIDIA removed any requirements for laptop makers to label lower powered mobile GPU's as "Max-Q" to indicate the design emphasis is on power efficiency and noise rather than straight performance. The only way we're going to be able to compare one 3000 series GPU to another is if the laptop makers grace us by telling us the wattage they're pumping thru the GPU. In extreme cases, you could end up with severely underpowered 3070 mobile GPU's being outperformed by high powered 3060's. Gonna be fun.

I've wanted a QHD gaming laptop forever. I mostly play single player stuff so 1440p 60fps will be fine. 6 speakers, 100% sRGB and DCI-P3 gamut, good battery life, quieter fans, nice looks...
It's not cheap but it's not really comparable to an Acer nitro or something that is a bang for the buck buy. You're paying for the premium finish and features on a Zephyrus.
Getting downvoted for speaking the truth
I have purchased 2 asus laptops 1 for myself and another as a gift they look amazing and feel decent but they sacrifice cooling for it they run extremely hot consistently hitting 94°c which lowers the lifespan a ton
This is arguably the best value out there for an octa core paired with a 3070. Especially considering the screen option they put on it. There's really nothing else out there like it at this price.
Maybe it's a ripoff to you because you don't agree with the price point of laptops and GPUs in general? Considering the price of a 3070 is $700, this is is a decent deal for a laptop.

--HS (35watt) may be more energy efficient than HX(45watt) for slightly better battery life.
While HX is clocked higher 3.3 GHz with larger cache. But benchmarks show not much difference.

Seems too high for the average person. Will wait till the end of the year for $1500 deals and lower (probably with a little lower specs). But this may be the deal for you if the 2560 x 1440 (QHD) screen & RTX 3070 is worth it.

I haven't purchased ASUS products in 10 years (a laptop and router which still work today), so not sure how bad their quality control has become lately as mentioned by few here.
My ASUS blu-ray drive stopped working in 6 months.
My ASUS router loses connection to USB printer half the time when I want to use. (Need to berebooted)
(Amazon replaced this router, same problem in a few months..)
No more asus for me.....
I used to like ASUS motherboard though....
(Do not want to try new one at this time..)
at least people arent waiting in line at 12 am in the store...

Price is a little steep for now, but I'm interested in this for the high quality screen (aren't many 15.6" QHD options out there, let alone at 165Hz and don't cost twice as much). I do want to see how many nits first, as a lot of gaming laptops are around 300 but I'm looking for 400+. It has 16gb ram w) open slot, can fit 2 SSDs, high quality build materials, 90w battery, and it's expected to have pretty good cooling (though that remains to be seen). I'd love a gaming/content laptop and my favorite so far is the latest Gigabyte Aero 17 with similar performance and likely even better cooling with HDMI 2.1, but it's almost a grand more... I love me a good screen and can't stand most gaming laptops that skimp in, at least IMO, one of the most important aspects of a laptop and instead opt for performance.
