I price matched this dual fuel generator at Mills Fleet Farm which still seems to have stock. Decent generator 69db that weighs about 90lbs. I like the flexible fuel option for my RV. Reviews are overall pretty good. It is not an inverter is the only downside. It comes with the regulator and hose to hook up LP. The cheapest dual fuel I could find otherwise was around $450. YMMV with price match but I had no problems. Inventory showed 3 in stock they only found 1.it looks like you can order online at camping world. None in stock locally.
Fleet Farm told me the item is discontinued and would not give me a rain check on another.

My other consideration is the Wgen igen inverter gens. The igen 2500 was just on sale for $400. If you don't need LP or 240 and the lower wattage is enough the reward is safe clean power for fridge compressor tv and electronics, portable induction cook tops, battery charging. Quieter, compact and can hand carry. Much more useful than traditional gensets.
Traditional gens like the Sportsman hammer anything with a circuit board and will shorten the life of refrigerators if used frequently. They are best outside CA for shop, power tools, resistive loads.

I agree with everything within however most of what you described is the difference between an inverter and non inverter generator. For the price and overall performance I like the sportsman for rv'ing and camping. For a house backup you definitely hit on some of the downsides of it. I almost purchased the Wgen5300 but really don't need all the other bells and whistles at this point! Regardless you posted very relevant good info! Thanks for commenting!

My prior experience with small portable Chinese inverter generators, Generac to be precise, is that you get what you pay for. They are a laborious and costly to service. It's cheaper to buy a Honda in the long run. The open frame inverter models, while larger and more bulky, are at least easier to service.
Parts and Service of small generators: I learned that it is easier and cheaper by far to buy the small carburetor assemblies complete from discount parts houses. Whatever you think the carb assembly will require replacement sooner rather than later. They aren't expensive if you chop around an necessary to have on hand.
It helps to have your model's parts list. There's a learning curve and time invested in tracking down discounted parts which are only available for certain brand gensets. I like to check the cost of fuel system and inverter circuit boards before buying any inverter gen.
If you have the room and budget a deep cycle battery bank, a stand alone inverter-line charger and a stand alone gas/propane powered high amp battery charger is best.
