I bought this on 12/31 online for $1199 so I am beyond my 30 days price adjustment for the $100, but I think I can return it in store. I haven't opened the box yet. Wondering with all the comments about short battery life and running hot if I should look for something else. Not looking for anything for gaming, just something that can execute stock trades quickly and can run a couple of other monitors. And of course at a good price. I think this may be overkill for what I need?
A $300 laptop could run multiple monitors.

Fast internet is what you need if you are worried about Nano seconds when buying and selling.

You may also want LONG battery life just incase the power goes out, you can use your cell phone hotspot and laptop battery... this will not do to well for that.

Pros:
- Excellent features for the price.
- Excellent Performance

Cons:
- Battery life is pretty bad. If you wish to use it with power, it is OK. Doesn't last long on otherwise. For my usage, it lasts between 40 mins - 80 mins.
- Heating - With the powerful CPU and GPU, the heat generation is also high.
- A bit loud: With the all the fans to dissipate the heat, it could get a bit loud.

If you want a laptop with high specs with some portability or want something that is compact, go for it. If you are only looking for gaming, I would invest on a desktop.
All cons are not cons, higher fps = higher TGP/TDP = heat.

I think it is mostly due to AMD coming out in weeks with the next gen CPU which is suppose to blow away Intel.

I would not recommend a new laptop this month unless you have no choice.

Even with the Ryzen 4000, the best GPU's were the RTX2060... this will all change with the next gen AMD machines. It is probably a good time to buy AMD stock, I just hope they made enough product... but it seems they did (time will tell).
If you want a high end MSI laptop, you're not going to get one with a Ryzen CPU in 2021 (at least, that's how it's looking). Whether they still have the marketing deals with Intel, or the other manufacturers like Asus just scooped them all up, I would be hard pressed to see how you could get something from them in the near future that isn't an all-plastic build and contains a Ryzen.

Of course, if you're willing to spend $500 or so more, just get the Asus Rog Strix 17 inch. It doesn't come with amazing 165hz 1440p with the base config but the combination of the 3070 and new Ryzen means exceptional performance. And most importantly, it runs incredibly cool!

I guess we will just have to wait and see.

I am not brand loyal.

I helped my cousin get the HP Omen with Ryzen 7 and a 1660Ti in August/Sepetmber.

And even if you are set on a MSI, I would still wait cause once the AMD machines are out... prices are bound to drop.

They are saying really long battery life.

Haven't even opened it? What are you waiting for? Costco has 90 day returns.

If you want a big screen I think the Msi with the 1650ti for $750 would be a better fit, though you'll probably want to do a ram upgrade. You'd just need to buy an additional 8gb stick and install it.

Or the Bravo if you want a really great CPU.

Thanks for the info. I haven't opened it...just waiting to see if anything better came up. And I have a laptop that functions quite well (Satellite P75-A7200) but I am sure an upgrade is overdue as my current one is probably 8+ years old and I am beginning to have some issues with the screen. That being said, the one I bought is probably overkill for what I need. I looked at the one you suggested (MSI 1650ti) prior and almost pulled the trigger...I just want to make sure I am good for a few years.

You said earlier you wanted to execute stock trades and run external monitors. If you won't be gaming you would be better off without a "gaming laptop". And you don't need a nice display if you'll be using externals. You may be better off with a low end desktop and a light and small laptop for traveling.

Thanks for the reply. No gaming. I have a desktop...just looking for something I can carry around the house and potentially hook up to the desktop monitors if I need to. Like I said, the one I purchased earlier is probably way overkill. I rarely take a laptop when traveling...just use the phone. And my eyesight isn't what it once was so the larger screen is preferred. The wife has a 15.6" and I much prefer my 17.3". Thanks again for the advice!

A lot of the machines are out...or they're coming first or second week of February. I don't think it's a bad idea to wait but those expecting huge firesales might be disappointed. And MSI's entire lineup (mid through high end has already been announced, and many reviewed. Don't think AMD is coming to them, sadly)

I heard it is a bad time to buy gaming desktop right now with the hugely overprice (and even out of stock) in graphic card and CPU, etc (?) I assume people are paying highend gaming desktop price for even mid range gaming desktop now?
Everyone apparently thinks they will out mine each-other in crypto by buying 3060/70/80 gaming desktops. Add in a recent $600 coupon that people are in a hurry to throw away and perfect storm

Is it 1080p or HD+?

A good non-gaming laptop will have better battery life, be lighter, and quieter.

Both of our current ones I am sure are 720 or1080p because they are older. I bought the one in this thread because it had good specs, but I am thinking you are correct for what I use it for...I probably need a non-gaming laptop so I will take this one back and look for a deal on something else. Thanks for the advice!

You mentioned bad eyes. Some 17.3" displays have 1600x900 pixels, which makes stuff look bigger in windows vs 1080p. If you prefer that, be sure to look for it.

I had bought this laptop from Costco 3 months ago for $1399, the speakers gave up after 2 weeks, glad I bought it from Costco as they took it back right away, no questions asked. Overall good laptop, keyboard could be distracting if you want to focus on something. Not good for anything but gaming IMHO. Cannot be something that you can take to an office meeting or customer.. lol

Thanks, I will keep that in mind. On the hunt for a non-gaming laptop now. Should save me some cash as well.
