I have 805 fico and they decline my Application for Venture credit card and wasted 1 credit check. I won't be applying any Capital one credit card anytime soon.
Call the reconsideration line, could be an error on the app or a typo. Happened to me before
Keep in mind that you'll also get a hard pull from all 3 bureaus anytime you apply for a Capital One credit card.

Some credit cards target people with lower credit scores to ensure they put people into debt more and then profit more off interest.
I think so, also was denied with a high credit score and only 2 cards

Capital One has a branding problem. The Quicksilver card has many variants. The $40 annual fee card is a secured credit card. It looks like they no longer charge an annual fee but you have to continually deposit an amount equal to your credit limit. Those are the types of cards for people with no credit or bad credit. You do not want to keep secured credit cards for any period longer than needed. Once you have an unsecured credit, you should have cancelled the secured credit card long ago.

They've also switched from Visa to Mastercard for the Quicksilver card. All the Visa accounts are grandfathered in which means they continue to be Quicksilver Visa cards. Then there is the VISA Signature which is for credit lines above 5K.
Thanks! That's some good info. I don't recall it being secured but its been over a decade so I dont remember. It's also the one card I rarely ever use due to their crappy rewards & even worse customer service.

I recently got new card so I plan on finally cancelling this in order to get my fee back from last year. To me it makes no sense why a CC company would risk losing a customer of over a decade thats never missed a payment over an annual fee that the same card no longer has.

FYI if you already have any Capital One card and you apply for this one, they won't give you the bonus. (you have to be a brand new Capital One customer)

Source: I applied for this card got it spent the money and they declined the bonus after I called.

Horrendous (and completely outsourced) customer service indeed. Wouldnt bank with them even if there was a $500 bonus on $500 spent

I'm not sure about this, but I don't think the Quicksilver AF thing is related to it being secured or non-secured. They do offer different variants of it, and it's based on your credit rating like you said. You still get a normal credit card either way, but depending on your credit rating, they will charge an annual fee even if you got the non-secured card.

Either way, I would never recommend getting a secured card or the "normal" Quicksilver credit card with AF from Capital One. They are terrible at "graduating" people to an unsecured or no AF version of their card even if the cardholder improves their credit.

If people are looking to improve their credit through a secured card, get the Discover secured card. Discover will upgrade you to a normal card assuming you pay your bills on time and are responsible. Eventually you will have an unsecured card that you can keep for a long time and keep building credit history vs. being stuck with a secured card with Capital One that you will have to cancel because they might not "graduate" you to an unsecured card.

I have had the Quicksilver Visa since 2016. I got the $200 bonus back then when the purchase threshold was $500. Never had any issues. There was no annual fee back then. If your credit line is above 5K, your card says Visa Signature on it. Capital One never advertises this and the benefits are trivial at best. Basically a non issue just a word on the card.

Today Capital One has switched the Quicksilver card over to MasterCard branding. All the previous Quicksilver Visa cards are grandfathered, meaning nothing changed.

There would be no reason for anybody to get a Quicksilver Card and pay an annual fee for a non secured card. In my previous post I mentioned the Quicksilver branding problem. There is a Quicksilver One card with a $39 annual fee. I assumed that was the secured Quicksilver Card but it appears that card is still offered.

Are you saying that people applying for the no annual fee Quicksilver who are denied for that card are sent a Quicksilver One card with a $39 annual fee? That would be bait and switch as well as pariah banking practices.

That's a good question. I'm guessing the applicant would be rejected for the no AF card if their credit isn't good enough. I don't think they get forced into the AF version. On the Capital One website the cards are listed with different application links. Essentially if you have good credit, apply for the no AF version Quicksilver. If you have fair credit, apply for the one with the $39 AF or the secured version which has no AF. It's weird but if you go to their page [capitalone.com] it might make more sense.

Wife and I signed up and both of us were approved. 800+ credit score each. Basically $400 bucks free. Already redeemed and paid off the cards, never to be used again. Fantastic.

Just an update I cancelled and it was not a secured card.

Goes to show Cap 1 is trash. Not willing to remove an annual fee on a card that no longer has one, for a customer of over decade with zero late payments and a great credit score.

Got rejected for chase freedom flex and eyeing this card for the 200 dollar bonus to buy a new tv, credit karma says I have a "fair" chance and I don't know if I should try or not?

I've had this card for 7 years, still has $1000 limit and they've never responded to my credit increase requests
