This perplexes me. If using corded tools, You can get the Bosch or Makita router, at retail price, for $99, and buy the HF version of this sander (Bauer) for $25 right now.
I mean, Ridgid isn't exactly the best on terms of routers and sanders , but a good warranty goes a long way.
However, in corded palm/laminate routers, the Bosch is great, and Makita is pretty good as well (I prefer the Bosch of the two brands).
In sanders, if you like corded, then look into going pnuematic (ohhh air sanders are great... even cheap ones.) But if you arent there yet, or never want to be, then remember that sanders are fickle creatures.... Creatures that want to maliciously harm you!!!
I mean, sure, they seem harmless compared to other tools, but that's how they get ya. They attack your mind, your arms, and your bank account. You tell yourself, "I dont like this sander, but then again, it'sa $20 sander. I bet if I bought a $50 one, it would WAYY better!".
And by then... it's already too late.
From there, you realize the $50 one isn't much different. On top of that, your arms were numb from using it, and you dropped it, breaking the "dust collection" box from the back of it. So you think, "Well screw it, I'm buying one for $150!!!"
The cycle continues.
So just buy a Bauer. They're effective, and you wont get a better corded sander until you start getting to $200.
Or a$30 pnuematic will last forever, and your hands wont go numb do easily. Plus they are sanding beasts. So go big, or go air for sanders. Plus an sir compressor is great for a ton of reasons. And you might already have one.
But...
They dont have a "lifetime" warranty.
But a lifetime is meaningless when your soul has been eaten by the SanderMan!
I don't have a router, a fact I have cause to regret once or twice per year. I've got a decent Bosch random orbit sander which I use10-20 times a year. Convince me the 1/4 sheet sander adds some value to my life and you've got a deal!
Note: my only real complaint with my current sander is that I feel like I'm often doing sanding tasks that only work the edge of the disc and end up throwing away discs where only the outside 1/4" is worn.

How many CFM is required to drive a pneumatic sander?
How many CFM is required to drive a pneumatic sander?
It varies really...
I just got a larger, 6 inch orbital (for slabs), and it takes 7cfm at 90psi.
My 5in took 6 cfm at 100.
I have a sheet/belt sander, that says it takes 4 cfm at 90psi, but it is really 6cfm at 120psi (then again, it's an old one i bought for $10 on Offerup.)
So it varies alot.
But it's amazing how well the cheap air sanders work. Their dust collection is way better than I would've expected.
There are realllly nice sanders, and I tried my buddy's, and it's amazing (like Festool amazing) but that particular one retails for $225, and its ridiculously smooth and quiet. It blows the Bosch GET75 my buddy also has, out of the water (and that's a great, but expensive, electric sander.). But both are more than I need.
I only have 1 functioning arm, so sanding with a junky sander can take my arm out fast. So I spent a fortune on sanders before I was shown how nice air sanders can be.
I'll be upgrading my compressor next year, (here in humid Florida, compressor tanks dont fare too well)... and still undecided on size or brand. But I'm a sucker for a good deal. Lol.

Right on, the only problem with air sanders is the giant, expensive air compressor required for them. They are definitely the way to go if you've already made that investment!
I agree on the power sanders, the cheap ones aren't too much different than the expensive ones usually except for the dust collection on some.

Agree. 99% of the time I don't want to lug around compressor and air hoses
Go ROS instead of 1/4 sheet, and do spend the $50-$70 range if you will use the sander for more than 30-60s at a time. The vibration control/dampening on a better unit is where the difference in cost is felt. Take a look at what a replacement pad (part that the sandpaper sticks to) costs for the brand you end up picking.
What's ROS?
What sander will you suggest for a DIY homeowner who just use it for small projects like maybe 1-2x a year?
I need to sand and stain my wood deck probably sometime next year. I believe a belt sander is usually used for this task (never done it). I also have a random orbital sander I use for small woodworking jobs. What would you use a sheet sander like this one for?
Good luck getting the warranty. By the time you find out they didn't accept your home depot receipt the period for submittal and return will be over.
(Queue the "I never had a problem" guy)
Just ask yourself why it takes 90 days for them to verify a purchase from their sole retailer, or why that step is even necessary for a warranty. This isnt a rebate.
