Didn't see this posted.
For any motorcyclists looking for extra protection, Dainese is having a rare 20% sale on its untethered air bag vest.

It is still a good chunk of change but it is basically the price of a nice helmet but for protection for your upper body.

Today is the last day of the deal.

A lot of people that don't have a clue posting a lot of worthless comments here. This is a great advance in safety and is finally coming down in price. Two years ago this could only be had in a 1000 dollar jacket, and before that only in a full leather suit. For those uninformed this is a step up from all other safety tech because it prevents your neck from getting tossed around during a tumble. So it goes together with your other gear, the helmet to keep your skull in tact, the leathers to keep your skin on, and this vest to protect your neck, back and ribs.

Just because riding is more dangerous than a car doesn't mean you throw all safety measures out. It isn't all or nothing in this life, you do what you want and you risk mitigate to your preference. Not all bikers are lunatics, some of us enjoy the thrill, enjoy saving money on gas, enjoy getting to work and through traffic faster, and enjoy getting home safe.

By the way, every bike is one less car in front of you on your commute, so embrace the two wheelers out there and to the OP thank you for sharing.
Imagine thinking that being in an accident makes you qualified to make such an assertion. It's amazing you haven't been employed by Dainese or A-Stars, what with your massive wealth of knowledge.

Despite being in the presence of someone so smart and so knowledgeable, let me try to present some information. These have gyros that make one analysis per millisecond, and take another 30-45 milliseconds to deploy. That means you'd have a fully-inflated bag in probably under 50 milliseconds on the high side. I'm sure you are aware of how fast that is, being so knowledgeable, but for the other people that don't know better, you'd only travel ~7.4 feet flying off your bike at 100mph (just under 148fps) in that time, or about 5ft at a more sane 70mph. You'd still have 50-350 milliseconds left to complete an eyeblink.

But, now that my dripping sarcasm has stopped, I'd love to know how you being a bad rider translates to understanding time intervals.
Ty!
Hopefully more motorcycle deals

Honestly, I can't see how this is worth $600.

If you're on a bike, you damn well better be wearing a helmet, and drive sensibly, if you are concerned about safety.

Better to wear a really tough jacket, and invest in a set of skid bars for your bike, if you want addition safety, vs buying this.

To answer your question (I bolded it), your back contains (most of) your spinal column. That being protected can protect you from paralysis in a back injury situation. I would have expected that to be obvious to every adult, whether they ride or not.

Bringing up the head as the most important thing to protect is true, but has nothing to do with this equipment. That is what helmets help to protect.

Nothing is a guarantee of full protection, but understand that any preventable back injury is money well spent if within your means.

I would pay retail of $700 without any qualms for this if I still rode. Had to give it up because everyone around me is a hazard to me. It is hard for drivers to see a biker sometimes, even while paying attention.

I am in the having crashed club. Lucky for me no serious ones. Anyone who rides has had close calls that could have gone very wrong. Think about how many times someone pulled out in front of you like you were not there. Cut you off, didn't care even though they did see you. It is really shocking when the fun gets sucked out of the hobby by the danger.

With the ubiquitous advent of texting, phone calls, and other distractions while driving, plus being married to an insurance claims adjuster who gets many cases of motorcycle accidents, I retired from riding, and not ashamed to admit it.

Personally, this is the first I have ever read of this equipment, and it sounds like a great investment for casual riders and a must for professionals.
This pretty much covers the point I was trying to make. Now I agree 100% about always wearing a helmet but anything that might help protect my vitals and more importantly my spine is money well spent. This is also coming from a much more mature attitude (with age comes wisdom) to riding then I had in my youth. Although never a reckless rider or show off I did ride in shorts, T-shirts, sneakers (with full face helmet) more times then I care to admit. With age and responsibility to a family I have learned there is nothing too expensive when it comes to protecting yourself and if you can afford to do it please do.

If you don't ride but you do drive please watch out for motorcycles when you are out an about and apologies in advance for the riders that do dumb shit and make all of us look bad.

Stay Safe no matter how you choose to do it. Somebody somewhere will care if you become a statistic.

And this concludes my public service announcement.

So many "experts" weighing in on how useful this is. Dainese is the highest quality when it comes to gear and tech innovations. I'm willing to bet this works very f***king well. A team of researchers and developers is much smarter than a slickdeals commenter.

I have a little alcohol spray for when these little bugs pop up and usually 1 or two sprays kills them. But no matter what that little farker would NOT die. I sprayed like 10 times. It also stops for a couple seconds too so I thought I got him! This was early in the morning for me too so I wasn't entirely awake. omgs fml.

LOL!! That sounds like the left when the right were claiming voter fraud.
Is it that funny- you really think I sound like some nut job screaming about voter fraud just because I replied to some jack off that probably never been on a damn motorcycle to begin with. If you take a second to read what the hell I said it makes complete sense, The guy was shooting off the mouth he had no idea what the hell he was talking about. If you've gotten a crash or two and gotten torn up then subsequently purchased one of these and exactly how quick these goddamn things work maybe you shut your mouth. Or you could be an armchair hero on the Internet and look like a jack off. Break my balls if you want buddy, but I'm no left wing nut.

Hmm. Are you a republican? Because, reading comprehension is not your strong suit.
