This is basically for the 30 million or so rural households in the US. They likely won't offer access to urban areas directly for technical reasons -- too many users close to each other will degrade bandwidth.

Here's hoping Tmobile's 5G home internet turns out OK/usable.
I'm banking on this too. T-Mobile 5G in my area / home is phenomenal. I need to get out from under the thumb of Comcast and their data caps.

Starlink is for people in rural locations with little to no internet options. Service will be just above 100 mbps with high latency compared to cable or fiber connections.

I live in a big city where I can get fiber if I wanted to pay for it. Maybe in a few years this will be a good option though.

For rural area, i think starlink is a revolution since cable run at potato speed for $60-80/month internet only plan
I think it's more for those stuck on DSL or satellite. At this point speeds advertised look slower than what most get via a cable connection, the caveat is those who can't get a cable connection.

I wonder how the signal would be affected during storms.

I was hyped about this but it seems its too pricey right now. Wasn't the goal to make internet affordable globally?
The goal is to put even more space junk in orbit

This post was a PSA for those of us with really poor internet options. This service is much better than anything I currently have available. It's definitely not for everyone - not intended to replace decent wired service.

Cellular based fixed internet has provisioning limitations. There are only so many slots per tower, which are first come first served.
It's appreciated for that schooling at the least!
I clearly had no idea there was even a difference with cellular fixed internet. The T-mobile signup rep mentioned slots. I assumed them to not know what they were talking about & that it was purely unlocked hotspot/router tech.

I believe something like 100/30 ~30ms. Honestly, it doesn't matter. If this is your only option, it's lightyears better than geostationary satellite service.
