take a look at my comment . I was in the same boat as you until I started taking my internet from the cell tower using an RV data plan . I get 30 mbps to 100 mbps and mostly around 60 to 70 mbps using a 4g lte modem and router . Honestly for now that is fast enough for every application. Yes it takes me 4 minutes to download a game instead of 1 minute but I can live with that

AT&T I get 1 bar in certain parts of my house, 0 in the rest of it.

We had to buy a $700 cel-fi Pro booster unit just to get usable phone service in most of our house.

Fixed wireless internet isn't a solution for us until/unless they build more towers- which they have little motivation to do in lower density rural areas.

So, it looks like the dish points (mostly) straight up. Anybody on beta know what happens when it fills up with snow? Will I need to climb onto the roof and clean it to restore service like with my sat tv dish?

Dish is heated, so it shouldn't fill up with snow in the first place

barely

Merriam-Webster defines irregardless as "nonstandard" but meaning the same as "regardless." "Many people find irregardless to be a nonsensical word, as the ir- prefix usually functions to indicates negation; however, in this case it appears to function as an intensifier," the dictionary writes
I agree with you that its barely a word. I wouldnt recommend using it, ever. But Ive heard this come up before that its not a real word...so I had to do some digging. It is, unfortunately.

I also had to look up supposably, since I also thought that was a fake word. Apparently that is also a real word. People confuse it with supposedly, and apparently its a difficult word to use properly.

It's heated, we have a lot of snow and mine stays clear.

it has nothing to do with the differing technologies but is a matter of corporate policies. Att has an RV program . Verizon doesn't as far as I know and from what I have read Verizon has even gone further and taken steps to keep non-cell phone users off of the towers . But I have not researched this intensely in the last 2 years so maybe things have changed at Verizon
I re-read your post and the confusion is because I thought you were referring to the person you quoted who has a DSL connection and a 20ft tower (landline phone, permanent residence most likely).

I've got decent Comcast Internet but I think it's 70mbps and $120 with taxes. Signed up for this to give Comcast the bird. I have a feeling when it arrives later this year I'll have to return it due to reliability issues (drops during zoom meetings etc) but I'm going to give it a try before I make that decision. I'm a network nerd by trade anyways so this is super cool!

Anyone with experience here...if Starlink is asking me for the full amount, does that mean my area is eligible to receive a unit right away? Thanks

Low is relative. Starlink isn't currently meant to be a replacement for wired connections. It's for people that don't have that option which is a huge percentage of the country and it's much faster and cheaper than anything those areas have ever had access to.
only about 6% or 19M of the US doesn't have access to broadband according to the fcc

I think you're one of the lucky ones - you can order now without the preorder. Hope it works well for you!

Any clue if you can use/pay this seasonally (ie not pay for the 9 months you are not at a remote summer camp)?
I'd also like to know if this is possible, but I'm not holding out hope.

I'd use service at a pretty remote house that primarily gets used seasonally. We have Frontier service there at the moment, but it's unreliable from both a speed and connectivity perspective, and cuts out entirely at least 1-2x/week, often for extended windows. Cell service ends ~3 miles down the road, so it's our only option at the moment to not be entirely off the grid.

Trying to mentally prepare myself for paying for dual ISPs 12mo a year, when realistically they might get used for half of that time. But I need more reliable internet access, so, here we are.

SpaceX is aiming for a maximum performance during the Beta Phase of Internet download speeds up to 100Mbps between the Starlink Kit equipment located at the customer's home and the Starlink Internet edge. Actual performance may be lesser and is not guaranteed.

"it's not dialup"

I can stream TV, barely.
iheart or amazon music is fine, but not with anything else.
Can't download a Windows/Android update without everything else coming to halt.
WFH remote desktop is near impossible, jumpy and horribly delayed at best.

House is fully automated: smartthings, Hue, Alexa, Ring, Nest, etc.
Everything "calling home" after a DSL modem or router reset means no other internet.

Yes. That means the cell is active and you can join in on the beta.

wow what a rip off
Originally it was promoted as an idea to help rural america get connected. The problem with this now is the people that needed it the most (poor people living in rural america), still can't have internet.

Is great for middle and high income people with no previous options.
