I bought a new Encore a year ago from Peets for $104 delivered. It's still in the box. I have two of these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QPK9...M0M540MGD9

One for each house. They are rock solid. I replaced the catch bin with a stainless cup.

The #1 thing to spend your money on is a good grinder. I have the Virtuoso plus that I bought as a refurb 6 months ago, and it is rock solid. It looked brand new out of the package.

If you get the encore, you can inquire about the upgraded burrs for something like $35 more.

At least for the Sette 30, this is not a great deal. I've had one in my Amazon shopping cart for several months now, so I have been watching prices.

The Amazon warehouse price (usually means just a banged up box, or sometimes open box, but basically new unit) is well below $195 on a regular basis.

Are these quieter than blade grinders? Looking for a gift for my father and my mom hates how loud his 30 year old blade grinder is.
quietest grinder i ever had and still use (great for espresso) is breville smart grinder pro.

FYI I have a Sette 30 I bought for about a year. I grind 5 lbs of coffee a month. Works fine with an asterisk. I have both burrs (the AP burr) and bought the other burr (forgot the name) that will do drip / french press. Also I have the micro adjustment part. Overall it was probably more expensive in the long run to do it this way but it's been rock solid. I've even accidentally poured water into the grinder and it still works. Barazta's customer service is excellent.

The reason I bought the sette was because the adjustment ring (plastic) on my breville infuser broke so I couldn't adjust anymore. It might be the same internals for the Breville smart grinder in which case I would question it's long term reliability (I did grind on that grinder for 5 years).

Not from regular 270. You can upgrade from 270w (discontinued model, I believe) to 270wi easily by buying the screen replacement part https://www.baratza.com/shop/sett...ay-upgrade

If you can afford, go with 270wi. It has a weight-based dispenser (i.e. you can configure it to despense, say 18 grams each time) instead of a time-based dispenser in 270 (which can be configured to dispense for, say 8 seconds each time). in the latter, you will need a kitchen scale to weigh the output before you brew the coffee. I personally went with 270 and plan to use the kitchen scale.

Happy owner of a Setter 270; I've had it for around 3 years with no issues and plenty of confidence in Baratza's CS should anything arise.

It's an outstanding espresso grinder from the money (fast, consistent, mess and clump free), but it is rather loud and not suitable for regular coffee or French press (I use a Virtuoso for those duties).

I jump the gun and bought a sette 270 without doing any homework. It's only good for espresso machines. It's too fine for drip coffee and French presses. If anybody could recommend an espresso machine it would be appreciated.
You can order a different burr that is better for drip...
