Hopefully there is another ~$265 644 deal soon.

What do you mean no feeder? I be seen a tray for paper underneath
Document feeder, usually on top. You load multiple docs to be scanned.

Ok. That's an unlikely scenario though for home scanner you would need to scan documents a lot.
But the lack of two sided printing is really a bummer. Printing stuff for kids online learning, you'd need to have duplex.

Yeah, good points. Is there a couple of models people would recommend for color laser printer compatible with generic toners that can do duplex printing? What deal alerts should we have set up if we're looking?

I got the 644 version from staples or quill who remembers just before pandemic lucky me.

It is so nice to be working from home and having reliable fax scan print in color. I'm still on the starter toner and have generic sitting in the supply closest.

I have it wired to my network and print from my Android phones Windows laptops and chromebooks zero issues.

I have shoved card stock in way to thick but only maybe 15 pages no issue.

A long time brother laser lover buy for the low price this was ideal for me. I keep printers forever. Old techs and FW people might remember the Dell 1600n...the rollers finally drove me too nuts last Dec so this Canon replaced it.
Have you figured out a way to only print from the paper tray? I hate that there's no way to specify the default paper feed. It always thinks it's going to print from the front feeder.

It's actually the #1 reason why I **don't** recommend this printer to anyone lol

Good deal, been in the market for a new home laser printer. Looks like shipping is no longer available, but can do free in store pickup if available.

What additional cost are you willing to pay for a duplex? Let's say $50 more; how many reams of paper can you get for$50 assuming that duplex is needed only to save paper. Is having duplex feature saving you money in the life of the printer. When I say "you", I'm actually talking to myself. I'm on the fence too about this. I'm looking for duplex feature.

I have the Canon MFC642Cdw and I hate the printer with a passion and wish I could go back and time and never have bought it for $150 when it was on sale at BB. It is literally the worst printer I've used in my life based on my experience. I ended up replacing it with a Brother and only keep the Canon around as a back up which I never use.

Pros:
  1. When it works it prints fast and clear when you use good legit ink like any normal laser printer should.

Cons:
  1. UI is unintuitive, and very cumbersome to use
  2. It is extremely noisy and after every print, it makes noise for an additional 5 minutes doing who knows what.
  3. Because of number 2, it takes a few minutes before I can print the next document which makes it slow as hell.
  4. Big foot print and heavy, it is really hard to move. Pain in the butt when I had to go look in the back for the serial number to diagnose and download the latest firmware to try and fix all the issues I have with it.
  5. If you use bad generic toners like I did in the past your print outs will print blurry. There are some good generics that I did eventually find. Generics are around 50-60 for a whole pack black and colors.
  6. It now always erroneously says its out of paper, so I must manually walk to the printer and tell it to print. I tried all kinds of research and tricks online including sticking business cards under the trigger spring and nothing works.
  7. If one color runs out, even if you are printing in black and white it won't print, which forces you to keep all colors on hand.
  8. I had all kinds of issues installing the printer on my different computers. I eventually had to make notes on the exact steps of what to do to get around some bugs they have in their installation tool, so I don't have to keep looking up their websites to diagnose what's going when installing on new device.
  9. The maintenance operations, like cleaning etc. don't work and say the printer needs to be serviced. Its not worth paying a technician to come out to service it, it would be cheaper to just buy a new printer.
  10. Scanning to computer is unreliable to the point, I just carry a usb drive and scan to the usb drive instead.

I have a black and white laser canon printer I bought for $60, it has duplex. (Lbpb230dw) I am not sure why $200 do not have this feature. May be for color printers it's harder to design.
Good point about saving on paper thought, but also it is much less convinient: the printouts will be thicker, heavier, harder to staple.
