I don't know the answer to either question. However, I'm very happy with mine... It fits in my 3 gang plate very nicely, was easy to install and set for sunrise/sunset, and has a little glowing light on it. I have had several since 2017 and no problems with any.
Even if someone has a strong background in programming, I can't in good conscience recommend any of the roll-your-own open source projects, they're a black-hole level time sink.
